- Kapitel 6 -

(Matthew 13:53–58; Luke 4:16–30)

Jesus went on from there and came to His hometown, accompanied by His disciples.

When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard Him were astonished. “Where did this man get these ideas?” they asked. “What is this wisdom He has been given? And how can He perform such miracles?

Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joses,(a) Judas, and Simon? Aren’t His sisters here with us as well?” And they took offense at Him.

Then Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own household is a prophet without honor.”

So He could not perform any miracles there, except to lay His hands on a few of the sick and heal them.

And He was amazed at their unbelief. And He went around from village to village, teaching the people.

The Ministry of the Twelve

(Matthew 10:5–15; Luke 9:1–6)

Then Jesus called the Twelve to Him and began to send them out two by two, giving them authority over unclean spirits.

He instructed them to take nothing but a staff for the journey—no bread, no bag, no money

in their belts—

and to wear sandals, but not a second tunic.

And He told them, “When you enter a house, stay there until you leave that area.

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that place, as a testimony against them.”(c)

So they set out and preached that the people should repent.

They also drove out many demons and healed many of the sick, anointing them with oil.

The Beheading of John

(Matthew 14:1–12; Luke 9:7–9)

Now King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known, and people were saying,(d) “John the Baptist has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”

Others were saying, “He is Elijah,” and still others, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”

But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has risen from the dead!”

For Herod himself had ordered that John be arrested and bound and imprisoned, on account of his brother Philip’s wife Herodias, whom Herod had married.

For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife!”

So Herodias held a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she had been unable,

because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man. When he heard John’s words, he was greatly perplexed; yet he listened to him gladly.

On Herod’s birthday, her opportunity arose. Herod held a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.

When the daughter of Herodias

came and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests, and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”

And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom!”

Then she went out and asked her mother, “What should I request?” And her mother answered, “The head of John the Baptist.”

At once the girl hurried back to the king with her request: “I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.”

The king was consumed with sorrow, but because of his oaths and his guests, he did not want to refuse her.

So without delay, the king commanded that John’s head be brought in. He sent an executioner, who went and beheaded him in the prison.

The man brought John’s head on a platter and presented it to the girl, who gave it to her mother.

When John’s disciples heard about this, they came and took his body and placed it in a tomb.

The Feeding of the Five Thousand

(Matthew 14:13–21; Luke 9:10–17; John 6:1–15)

Meanwhile, the apostles gathered around Jesus and brought Him news of all they had done and taught.

And He said to them, “Come with Me privately to a solitary place, and let us rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

So they went away in a boat by themselves to a solitary place.

But many people saw them leaving and recognized them. They ran together on foot from all the towns and arrived before them.

When Jesus stepped ashore and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And He began to teach them many things.

By now the hour was already late. So the disciples came to Jesus and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is already late.

Dismiss the crowd so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

But Jesus told them, “You give them something to eat.” They asked Him, “Should we go out and spend two hundred denarii

to give all of them bread to eat?”

“Go and see how many loaves you have,” He told them. And after checking, they said, “Five—and two fish.”

Then Jesus directed them to have the people sit in groups on the green grass.

So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.

Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, Jesus spoke a blessing and broke the loaves. Then He gave them to His disciples to set before the people. And He divided the two fish among them all.

They all ate and were satisfied,

and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish.

And there were five thousand men who had eaten the loaves.

Jesus Walks on Water

(Matthew 14:22–33; John 6:16–21)

Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to Bethsaida, while He dismissed the crowd.

After bidding them farewell, He went up on the mountain to pray.

When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and Jesus was alone on land.

He could see that the disciples were straining to row, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night,(g) Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea. He intended to pass by them,

but when they saw Him walking on the sea, they cried out, thinking He was a ghost—

for they all saw Him and were terrified. But Jesus spoke up at once: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”

Then He climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. And the disciples were utterly astounded,

for they had not understood about the loaves, but their hearts had been hardened.

Jesus Heals at Gennesaret

(Matthew 14:34–36)

When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and moored the boat.

As soon as they got out of the boat, the people recognized Jesus

and ran through that whole region, carrying the sick on mats to wherever they heard He was.

And wherever He went—villages and towns and countrysides—they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged Him just to let them touch the fringe of His cloak. And all who touched Him were healed.

Jesus wird in Nazareth abgelehnt

(Matthäus 13,53-58; Lukas 4,16-30)

Von da ging er hinweg, und kam in seine Vaterstadt; und seine Jünger folgten ihm.

Und als der Sabbat gekommen war, fing er an, in der Synagoge zu lehren. Und viele, die ihn hörten, verwunderten sich über seine Lehre, und sprachen: Woher kommt diesem das alles? Was ist das für eine Weisheit, die ihm gegeben ist? Und solche Wunder, die durch seine Hände gewirkt werden?

Ist er nicht der Zimmermann? Der Sohn Marias? Ein Bruder des Jakobus, Joseph, Judas und Simon? Und sind nicht auch seine Schwestern hier bei uns? Und sie nahmen Anstoß an ihm.

Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Ein Prophet ist nirgends ungeehrt, außer in seiner Vaterstadt, und in seinem Hause, und in seiner Verwandtschaft.

Und er konnte daselbst keine Wunder tun, außer dass er wenigen Kranken die Hände auflegte, und sie heilte.

Und er verwunderte sich über ihren Unglauben, und zog durch die Flecken ringsherum, und lehrte.

Die Aussendung der Zwölf

(Matthäus 10,5-15; Lukas 9,1-6)

Und er berief die Zwölf, und fing an, sie auszusenden, je zwei und zwei, und gab ihnen Macht über die unreinen Geister.

Er befahl ihnen auch, nichts mit sich zu nehmen auf den Weg außer einzig einen Stab, nicht eine Tasche, nicht Brot, noch Geld in dem Gürtel.

Sondern sich zu beschuhen mit Sandalen, und nicht zwei Röcke anzuziehen.

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wo ihr immer in einem Hause einkehret, da bleibet, bis ihr von da weiter gehet.

Wer immer euch nicht aufnimmt, noch anhört, von dem gehet hinaus, und schüttelt den Staub von euren Füßen, zum Zeugnisse für ihn.

Und sie gingen aus, und predigten, dass man Buße tun solle.

Und sie trieben auch viele böse Geister aus, und salbten viele Kranke mit Öl, und heilten sie.

Johannes der Täufer wird enthauptet

(Matthäus 14,1-12; Lukas 9,7-9)

Da hörte der König Herodes davon (denn sein Name ward bekannt), und sprach: Johannes, der Täufer, ist von den Toten auferstanden, und darum wirken die Wunderkräfte in ihm.

Andere aber sagten: Er ist Elias; und wieder andere sagten: Er ist ein Prophet, wie einer von den Propheten.

Als Herodes dies hörte, sprach er: Johannes, den ich enthaupten ließ, dieser ist von den Toten auferstanden.

Er selbst, nämlich Herodes, hatte hingesandt und den Johannes ergreifen und gefesselt im Gefängnisse halten lassen wegen der Herodias, des Weibes seines Bruders Philippus, weil er sie zum Weibe genommen hatte.

Denn Johannes sagte zu Herodes: Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, das Weib deines Bruders zu haben!

Die Herodias aber stellte ihm nach, und wollte ihn töten, alleine sie konnte es nicht;

denn Herodes fürchtete den Johannes, da er ihn als einen gerechten und heiligen Mann kannte; und er nahm ihn in Schutz, und tat vieles, nachdem er ihn angehört hatte, und hörte ihn gerne.

Als nun ein gelegener Tag gekommen war, gab Herodes zur Feier seines Geburtstages den Großen, den Kriegsobersten und den Vornehmsten von Galiläa ein Gastmahl.

Da trat eben der Herodias Tochter herein, und tanzte, und gefiel dem Herodes und seinen Tischgenossen wohl; und der König sprach zu dem Mädchen: Verlange von mir, was du willst, und ich werde es dir geben.

Und er schwur ihr: Was du immer von mir verlangen wirst, ich will es dir geben, und sollte es auch die Hälfte meines Reiches sein!

Da ging sie hinaus, und sprach zu ihrer Mutter: Was soll ich verlangen? Diese aber sprach: Das Haupt Johannes, des Täufers!

Und sogleich ging sie eilends hinein zu dem Könige, und stellte ihr Verlangen, indem sie sprach: Ich will, dass du mir auf der Stelle auf einer Schüssel das Haupt Johannes, des Täufers, gebest.

Da ward der König traurig; aber wegen des Eides und der Tischgenossen wollte er sie nicht betrüben,

sondern schickte einen Trabanten hin, und befahl, sein Haupt auf einer Schüssel zu bringen. Und dieser enthauptete ihn im Gefängnisse,

und brachte sein Haupt auf einer Schüssel, und gab es dem Mädchen, und das Mädchen gab es seiner Mutter.

Als dies seine Jünger gehört, kamen sie und nahmen seine Leiche, und legten sie in ein Grab.

Die Speisung der Fünftausend

(Matthäus 14,13-21; Lukas 9,10-17; Johannes 6,1-15)

Und die Apostel sammelten sich zu Jesus, und berichteten ihm alles, was sie getan und gelehrt hatten.

Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Kommet abseits an einen einsamen Ort, und ruhet ein wenig aus. Denn derer, die ab- und zugingen, waren viele, und sie hatten nicht einmal Zeit zu essen.

Da traten sie in ein Schiff, und begaben sich an einen einsamen Ort abseits.

Und die Leute sahen sie hinwegfahren, und viele erfuhren es, und liefen zu Lande aus allen Städten dahin zusammen, und kamen ihnen zuvor.

Als nun Jesus ausstieg, sah er eine große Volksmenge; und er erbarmte sich über sie, weil sie wie Schafe waren, die keinen Hirten haben, und er hob an, sie vieles zu lehren.

Da es aber schon spät geworden war, traten seine Jünger zu ihm, und sprachen: Dieser Ort ist öde, und die Tageszeit ist vorgerückt.

Entlasse sie, damit sie in die nächsten Dörfer und Flecken gehen, und sich Speise kaufen zu essen.

Er aber antwortete, und sprach zu ihnen: Gebet ihr ihnen zu essen! Und sie sagten zu ihm: Sollen wir hingehen, und um zweihundert Denare Brot kaufen, und ihnen zu essen geben?

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wie viele Brote habet ihr? Gehet hin, und sehet nach! Und da sie es ersehen hatten, sprachen sie: Fünf, und zwei Fische.

Da gebot er ihnen, sie sollten alle auf das grüne Gras niedersetzen lassen nach Abteilungen.

Und sie lagerten sich reihenweise zu Hundert und zu Fünfzig.

Und er nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, blickte gen Himmel auf, segnete und brach die Brote, und gab sie seinen Jüngern, damit sie ihnen vorlegten; auch die zwei Fische teilte er unter alle.

Und sie aßen alle, und wurden satt.

Und sie hoben auf, was von den Stücken übrig geblieben war, zwölf Körbe voll, und die Überbleibsel von den Fischen.

Es waren aber derer, die gegessen hatten, fünftausend Mann.

Jesus wandelt auf dem Meer

(Matthäus 14,22-33; Johannes 6,16-21)

Und sogleich nötigte er seine Jünger, in das Schiff zu steigen, und vor ihm nach Bethsaida hinüberzufahren, indes er das Volk entließ.

Und nachdem er sie entlassen hatte, ging er auf den Berg, um zu beten.

Da es nun spät geworden war, befand sich das Schiff mitten auf dem Meere, und er selbst allein auf dem Lande.

Und als er sah, wie sie große Mühe hatten im Rudern (denn der Wind war ihnen entgegen), kam er um die vierte Nachtwache zu ihnen, wandelnd auf dem Meere, und er tat, als wolle er bei ihnen vorübergehen.

Da sie ihn aber auf dem Meere wandeln sahen, meinten sie, es wäre ein Gespenst, und schrien auf.

Denn alle sahen ihn, und erschraken. Alsbald aber redete er sie an und sprach zu ihnen: Seid getrost, ich bin es, fürchtet euch nicht!

Und er stieg zu ihnen in das Schiff, und der Wind legte sich. Sie aber erstaunten über die Maßen bei sich selbst;

denn sie waren nicht zur Einsicht gelangt bei den Broten, weil ihr Herz mit Blindheit geschlagen war.

Viele berühren ihn und werden gesund

(Matthäus 14,34-36)

Als sie nun hinübergefahren waren, kamen sie an die Landschaft Genesareth, und legten an.

Und da sie aus dem Schiffe gestiegen waren, erkannten ihn die Menschen sogleich,

und liefen in jener ganzen Gegend umher, und fingen an, die Kranken auf Betten herumzutragen, dahin, wo sie hörten, dass er sei.

Und wo er immer hinkam in Flecken, oder Dörfer, oder Städte, da legten sie die Kranken auf die Gassen, und baten ihn, dass sie nur den Saum seines Kleides berühren dürften; und alle, die ihn berührten, wurden gesund.
