- Kapitel 2 -

My little sons, this I write to you, so that you may not sin. But if anyone has sinned, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Just One.

And he is the propitiation for our sins. And not only for our sins, but also for those of the whole world.

And we can be sure that we have known him by this: if we observe his commandments.(a)

Whoever claims that he knows him, and yet does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the charity of God is perfected. And by this we know that we are in him.

Whoever declares himself to remain in him, ought to walk just as he himself walked.

A New Commandment

Most beloved, I am not writing to you a new commandment, but the old commandment, which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Word, which you have heard.

Then too, I am writing to you a new commandment, which is the Truth in him and in you. For the darkness has passed away, and the true Light is now shining.(b)

Whoever declares himself to be in the light, and yet hates his brother, is in the darkness even now.

Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause of offense in him.

But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness, and in darkness he walks, and he does not know where he is going. For the darkness has blinded his eyes.

I am writing to you, little sons, because your sins are forgiven for the sake of his name.

I am writing to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, adolescents, because you have overcome the evil one.

I am writing to you, little children, because you have known the Father. I am writing to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Do Not Love the World

Do not choose to love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world is the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the arrogance of a life which is not of the Father, but is of the world.

And the world is passing away, with its desire. But whoever does the will of God abides unto eternity.

Beware of Antichrists

Little sons, it is the last hour. And, as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have arrived. By this, we know that it is the last hour.(c)

They went out from among us, but they were not of us. For, if they had been of us, certainly they would have remained with us. But in this way, it is made manifest that none of them are of us.(e)

Yet you have the anointing of the Holy One, and you know everything.(f)

I have not written to you as to ones who are ignorant of the truth, but as to ones who know the truth. For no lie is of the truth.

Who is a liar, other than he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This one is the Antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son.

No one who denies the Son also has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son, also has the Father.

Remain in Christ

As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, then you, too, shall abide in the Son and in the Father.

And this is the Promise, which he himself has promised to us: Eternal Life.(h)

I have written these things to you, because of those who would seduce you.

But as for you, let the Anointing that you have received from him abide in you. And so, you have no need of anyone to teach you. For his Anointing teaches you about everything, and it is the truth, and it is not a lie. And just as his Anointing has taught you, abide in him.(i)

And now, little sons, abide in him, so that when he appears, we may have faith, and we may not be confounded by him at his advent.

If you know that he is just, then know, too, that all who do what is just are born of him.

Meine Kindlein! dies schreibe ich euch, damit ihr nicht sündiget. Aber wenn auch jemand gesündigt hat, so haben wir einen Fürsprecher bei dem Vater, Jesus Christus, den Gerechten,

und er ist die Sühne für unsere Sünden; nicht allein für die unsrigen, sondern auch für die der ganzen Welt.

Die Prüfung, ihn zu kennen

Und daraus ersehen wir, dass wir ihn erkannt haben, wenn wir seine Gebote halten.

Wer da sagt, er habe ihn erkannt, und seine Gebote nicht hält, ist ein Lügner, und in ihm ist die Wahrheit nicht.

Wer aber sein Wort hält, in dem ist wahrhaft die Liebe Gottes vollkommen, und daran erkennen wir, dass wir in ihm sind.

Wer sagt, dass er in ihm bleibe, der muss, wie er gewandelt hat, ebenso auch selbst wandeln.

Geliebte! nicht ein neues Gebot schreibe ich euch, sondern ein altes Gebot, das ihr von Anfang an hattet; das alte Gebot ist das Wort, welche ihr gehört habt.

Wiederum schreibe ich euch ein neues Gebot, das wahr ist, sowohl bei ihm als bei euch, denn die Finsternis ist vergangen und das wahre Licht leuchtet schon.

Wer da sagt, er sei im Lichte, und hasst seinen Bruder, der ist in der Finsternis bis zur Stunde.

Wer seinen Bruder liebt, bleibt im Lichte, und in ihm ist kein Anstoß.

Wer aber seinen Bruder hasset, ist in der Finsternis, und wandelt in der Finsternis, und weiß nicht, wohin er geht, denn die Finsternis hat seine Augen geblendet.

Ihr geistlicher Zustand

Ich schreibe euch, Kinder! da euch ja die Sünden vergeben werden um seines Namens willen.

Ich schreibe euch Väter! weil ihr ja den erkannt habt, der von Anfang an ist. Ich schreibe euch Jünglinge! weil ihr den Bösen überwunden habet.

Ich schreibe euch, Kindlein! weil ihr ja den Vater erkannt habt. Ich schreibe euch, Jünglinge! weil ihr stark seid, und das Wort Gottes in euch bleibt, und ihr den Argen überwunden habt.

Liebt nicht die Welt

Liebet nicht die Welt, noch was in der Welt ist. Wenn jemand die Welt liebt, so ist die Liebe des Vaters nicht in ihm.

Denn alles, was in der Welt ist, ist Fleischeslust, Augenlust und Hoffart des Lebens, was nicht vom Vater, sondern von der Welt ist.

Und die Welt vergeht samt ihrer Lust; wer aber den Willen Gottes tut, bleibt in Ewigkeit.

Die Täuschungen der letzten Stunde

Kindlein! es ist die letzte Stunde; und wie ihr gehört habt, dass der Antichrist kommt, so sind auch jetzt viele Antichristen erschienen, woraus wir erkennen, dass es die letzte Stunde ist.

Von uns sind sie ausgegangen, aber sie waren nicht von uns; denn wenn sie von uns gewesen wären, so würden sie doch bei uns geblieben sein; allein es sollte an ihnen offenbar werden, dass nicht alle von uns sind.

Doch ihr habt die Salbung vom Heiligen und wisset alles.

Ich schreibe euch nicht, weil ihr die Wahrheit nicht wüsstet, sondern weil ihr sie wisset, und weil keine Lüge aus der Wahrheit kommt.

Wer anders ist der Lügner als der, welcher leugnet, dass Jesus der Christus ist? Der ist der Antichrist, welcher den Vater und den Sohn leugnet.

Jeder, der den Sohn leugnet, hat auch den Vater nicht; wer den Sohn bekennt, hat auch den Vater.

Lasst die Wahrheit in euch wohnen

Ihr – was ihr von Anfang an gehört habt, das bleibe in euch! Wenn in euch bleibt, was ihr von Anfang an gehört habt, so werdet auch ihr in dem Sohne und in dem Vater bleiben.

Und das ist die Verheißung, welche er uns gegeben hat, das ewige Leben.

Dieses habe ich euch über jene geschrieben, welche euch verführen wollen.

Was euch betrifft, so bleibe die Salbung, die ihr von ihm empfangen habt, in euch, und ihr habt nicht nötig, dass jemand euch belehre; sondern so, wie euch seine Salbung über alles belehrt, so ist es auch wahr und ist keine Lüge. Und wie sie euch belehrt hat, so bleibet in ihm.

Die Kinder Gottes

Und nun, Kindlein! bleibet in ihm, damit wir, wenn er erscheinen wird, Zuversicht haben, und nicht mit Scham von ihm weichen müssen bei seiner Ankunft.

Wenn ihr wisset, dass er gerecht ist, so erkennet auch, dass ein jeder, der Gerechtigkeit tut, aus ihm geboren ist.
