- Kapitel 18 -

Now he also told them a parable, that we should continually pray and not cease,

saying: “There was a certain judge in a certain city, who did not fear God and did not respect man.

But there was a certain widow in that city, and she went to him, saying, ‘Vindicate me from my adversary.’(a)

And he refused to do so for a long time. But afterwards, he said within himself: ‘Even though I do not fear God, nor respect man,

yet because this widow is pestering me, I will vindicate her, lest by returning, she may, in the end, wear me out.’ ”

Then the Lord said: “Listen to what the unjust judge said.

So then, will not God grant the vindication of his elect, who cry out to him day and night? Or will he continue to endure them?(b)

I tell you that he will quickly bring vindication to them. Yet truly, when the Son of man returns, do you think that he will find faith on earth?”

The Pharisee and the Tax Collector

Now about certain persons who consider themselves to be just, while disdaining others, he told also this parable:

“Two men ascended to the temple, in order to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.

Standing, the Pharisee prayed within himself in this way: ‘O God, I give thanks to you that I am not like the rest of men: robbers, unjust, adulterers, even as this tax collector chooses to be.

I fast twice between Sabbaths. I give tithes from all that I possess.’

And the tax collector, standing at a distance, was not willing to even lift up his eyes to heaven. But he struck his chest, saying: ‘O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’

I say to you, this one descended to his house justified, but not the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled; and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

Jesus Blesses the Children

(Matthew 19:13–15; Mark 10:13–16)

And they were bringing little children to him, so that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.

But Jesus, calling them together, said: “Allow the children to come to me, and do not be an obstacle to them. For of such is the kingdom of God.

Amen, I say to you, whoever will not accept the kingdom of God like a child, will not enter into it.”

The Rich Young Ruler

(Matthew 19:16–30; Mark 10:17–31)

And a certain leader questioned him, saying: “Good teacher, what should I do to possess eternal life?”

Then Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.

You know the commandments: You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. Honor your father and mother.”

And he said, “I have kept all these things from my youth.”

And when Jesus heard this, he said to him: “One thing is still lacking for you. Sell all the things that you have, and give to the poor. And then you will have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.”(c)

When he heard this, he became very sorrowful. For he was very rich.

Then Jesus, seeing him brought to sorrow, said: “How difficult it is for those who have money to enter into the kingdom of God!

For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a wealthy man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

And those who were listening to this said, “Then who is able to be saved?”

He said to them, “Things that are impossible with men are possible with God.”

And Peter said, “Behold, we have left everything, and we have followed you.”

And he said to them: “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has left behind home, or parents, or brothers, or a wife, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,

who will not receive much more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

The Third Prediction of the Passion

(Matthew 20:17–19; Mark 10:32–34)

Then Jesus took the twelve aside, and he said to them: “Behold, we are ascending to Jerusalem, and everything shall be completed which was written by the prophets about the Son of man.

For he will be handed over to the Gentiles, and he will be mocked and scourged and spit upon.

And after they have scourged him, they will kill him. And on the third day, he will rise again.”

But they understood none of these things. For this word was concealed from them, and they did not understand the things that were said.

Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar

(Matthew 20:29–34; Mark 10:46–52)

Now it happened that, as he was approaching Jericho, a certain blind man was sitting beside the way, begging.

And when he heard the multitude passing by, he asked what this was.

And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.

And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, take pity on me!”

And those who were passing by rebuked him, so that he would be silent. Yet truly, he cried out all the more, “Son of David, take pity on me!”

Then Jesus, standing still, ordered him to be brought to him. And when he had drawn near, he questioned him,

saying, “What do you want, that I might do for you?” So he said, “Lord, that I may see.”

And Jesus said to him: “Look around. Your faith has saved you.”

And immediately he saw. And he followed him, magnifying God. And all the people, when they saw this, gave praise to God.

Das Gleichnis von der hartnäckigen Witwe

Er sagte ihnen aber auch ein Gleichnis darüber, dass man allezeit beten, und nicht nachlassen müsse,

und sprach: Es war ein Richter in einer Stadt, der Gott nicht fürchtete, und keinen Menschen scheute.

Und es war eine Witwe in dieser Stadt, diese kam zu ihm, und sagte: Schaffe mir Recht gegen meinen Widersacher!

Und er wollte lange Zeit nicht. Darnach aber sprach er bei sich selbst: Wenn ich auch Gott nicht fürchte, und keinen Menschen scheue,

so will ich doch dieser Witwe, weil sie mir beschwerlich fällt, Recht schaffen, damit sie nicht endlich komme, und mich anfalle.

Der Herr aber sprach: Höret, was der ungerechte Richter sagt!

Gott aber sollte seinen Auserwählten, die Tag und Nacht zu ihm rufen, nicht Recht schaffen, und sollte dulden, dass sie unterdrückt werden?

Ich sage euch: Er wird ihnen schnell Recht schaffen. Jedoch wenn der Menschensohn kommt, wird er wohl den Glauben finden auf Erden?

Das Gleichnis vom Pharisäer und dem Zöllner

Er sagte auch zu einigen, welche das Selbstvertrauen hatten, dass sie gerecht seien, und die übrigen verachteten, dieses Gleichnis:

Zwei Menschen gingen hinauf in den Tempel, um zu beten; der eine ein Pharisäer, der andere ein Zöllner.

Der Pharisäer stellte sich hin, und betete bei sich selbst also: Gott! ich danke dir, dass ich nicht bin wie die übrigen Menschen, wie Räuber, Ungerechte, Ehebrecher, oder auch wie dieser Zöllner da.

Ich faste zweimal in der Woche, und gebe den Zehnten von allem, was ich besitze.

Der Zöllner aber stand von ferne, und wollte nicht einmal die Augen zum Himmel erheben, sondern schlug an seine Brust, und sprach: Gott sei mir Sünder gnädig!

Ich sage euch: Dieser ging gerechtfertigt nach Hause, jener nicht; denn ein jeder, der sich selbst erhöhet, wird erniedriget, und wer sich selbst erniedriget, der wird erhöhet werden.

Jesus segnet die kleinen Kinder

(Matthäus 19,13-15; Markus 10,13-16)

Sie brachten auch Kinder zu ihm, dass er sie berühren möchte. Da es aber die Jünger sahen, fuhren sie dieselben an.

Jesus aber rief sie herbei, und sprach: Lasset die Kinder zu mir kommen, und wehret es ihnen nicht; denn solcher ist das Reich Gottes!

Wahrlich, ich sage euch, wer das Reich Gottes nicht annimmt wie ein Kind, wird in dasselbe nicht eingehen!

Jesus berät den reichen jungen Herrscher

(Matthäus 19,16-30; Markus 10,17-31)

Und es fragte ihn ein Vorsteher, und sprach: Guter Meister! was soll ich tun, um das ewige Leben zu ererben?

Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Warum nennest du mich gut? Niemand ist gut, als Gott allein.

Die Gebote kennst du: Du sollst nicht töten; du sollst nicht ehebrechen; du sollst nicht stehlen; du sollst nicht falsches Zeugnis geben; ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter!

Er sprach: Das alles habe ich von meiner Jugend an beobachtet.

Als Jesus dies hörte, sprach er zu ihm: Noch eines mangelt dir; verkaufe alles, was du hast, und gib es den Armen, so wirst du einen Schatz im Himmel haben; und komm, folge mir.

Als jener dies hörte, ward er betrübt; denn er war sehr reich.

Bei Gott sind alle Dinge möglich

Da nun Jesus sah, dass er traurig geworden, sprach er: Wie schwer werden die, welche Geld haben, in das Reich Gottes eingehen!

Denn es ist leichter, dass ein Kamel durch ein Nadelöhr hindurch gehe, als dass ein Reicher in das Reich Gottes eingehe.

Da sprachen die, welche es hörten: Und wer kann selig werden?

Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Was unmöglich ist bei den Menschen, das ist möglich bei Gott.

Da sagte Petrus: Siehe, wir haben alles verlassen, und sind dir nachgefolgt.

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, ich sage euch, niemand ist, der Haus, oder Eltern, oder Brüder, oder Weib, oder Kinder um des Reiches Gottes willen verlassen hat,

und nicht viel mehr dafür erhielte in dieser Zeit, und in der zukünftigen Welt das ewige Leben!

Jesus sagt ein drittes Mal seinen Tod und seine Auferstehung voraus

(Matthäus 20,17-19; Markus 10,32-34)

Jesus aber nahm die Zwölf zu sich, und sprach zu ihnen: Siehe, wir gehen hinauf nach Jerusalem, und es wird alles vollendet werden, was durch die Propheten über den Menschensohn geschrieben worden ist!

Denn er wird den Heiden überliefert werden, und wird verspottet, gegeißelt und angespien werden;

und nachdem sie ihn gegeißelt haben, werden sie ihn töten, und am dritten Tage wird er wieder auferstehen.

Sie aber verstanden nichts von diesen Dingen; es war diese Rede vor ihnen verborgen, und sie begriffen nicht, was damit gesagt ward.

Ein Blinder erlangt sein Augenlicht

(Matthäus 20,29-34; Markus 10,46-52)

Und es geschah, als er sich Jericho näherte, saß ein Blinder an dem Wege, und bettelte.

Und da er das Volk vorbeiziehen hörte, fragte er, was dies wäre.

Sie aber sagten ihm, dass Jesus von Nazareth vorübergehe.

Da rief er, und sprach: Jesus, Sohn Davids, erbarme dich meiner!

Und die vorangingen, fuhren ihn an, dass er schweigen solle. Er aber schrie noch viel mehr: Sohn Davids, erbarme dich meiner!

Da blieb Jesus stehen, und befahl, ihn zu sich zu führen. Und als er sich genähert hatte, fragte er ihn,

und sprach: Was willst du, dass ich dir tue? Er aber sprach: Herr! Dass ich sehend werde.

Jesus sprach zu ihm: Sei sehend! Dein Glaube hat dir geholfen!

Und sogleich ward er sehend, und folgte ihm, Gott preisend. Und alles Volk, das es sah, lobte Gott.
