- Kapitel 110 -

God's faithful Messiah

(Genesis 14:17-24; Hebrews 5:1-10)

A Psalm of David. The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”

The Lord will send forth the scepter of your virtue from Zion. Rule in the midst of your enemies.
3
It is with you from the beginning, in the day of your virtue, in the splendor of the saints. From conception, before the light-bearer, I begot you.(a)

The Lord has sworn, and he will not repent: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”
5
The Lord is at your right hand. He has broken kings in the day of his wrath.
6
He will judge between the nations; he will fill up ruination. He will shatter heads in the land of the many.
7
He will drink from the torrent on the way. Because of this, he will exalt the head.

(a)109:3 The phrase ‘ante luciferum’ has a level of meaning whereby it refers to Lucifer, the devil. The meaning here is that God’s only Son was begotten in eternity, before the Angels were created, before the Angels fell from grace, before Lucifer (the light-bearer) became Satan (the adversary). The phrase ‘ex utero’ does not mean ‘from the womb,’ but has more of the meaning of ‘from conception.’ The word ‘utero’ is often used in Latin to refer to the generative capability (the ability to bring about conception) of men and women. In this case, it refers to the generative capability of the Father to give rise to the Son by procession.(Conte)

Ein Psalm Davids. Es spricht der Herr zu meinem Herrn: Setze dich zu meiner Rechten, bis ich deine Feinde hinlege als Schemel deiner Füße!

Dein mächtiges Zepter wird der Herr von Sion ausgehen lassen. Herrsche inmitten deiner Feinde!

Bei dir ist Herrschaft am Tage deiner Macht im Glanze der Heiligen, ich habe dich aus meinem Schoße gezeugt vor dem Morgensterne.

Der Herr hat geschworen, und es wird ihn nicht gereuen: Auf ewig bist du Priester nach der Ordnung Melchisedechs.

Der Herr zerschmettert zu deiner Rechten Könige am Tage seines Zornes.
6
Er wird Gericht halten über die Völker, wird die Niederlage vollständig machen, die Häupter im Lande vieler zerschmettern.
7
Aus dem Bache auf dem Wege wird er trinken, darum wird er das Haupt erheben.
