- Kapitel 139 -

You have searched me and known me

Unto the end. A Psalm of David. O Lord, you have examined me, and you have known me.
2
You have known my sitting down and my rising up again.
3
You have understood my thoughts from afar. My path and my fate, you have investigated.(a)
4
And you have foreseen all my ways. For there is no word in my tongue.(b) (c)

Behold, O Lord, you have known all things: the newest and the very old. You have formed me, and you have placed your hand over me.(d)

Your knowledge has become a wonder to me. It has been reinforced, and I am not able to prevail against it.
7
Where will I go from your Spirit? And where will I flee from your face?
8
If I ascend into heaven, you are there. If I descend into Hell, you are near.
9
If I assume my feathers in early morning, and dwell in the utmost parts of the sea,
10
even there, your hand will lead me forth, and your right hand will hold me.
11
And I said: Perhaps darkness will overwhelm me, and the night will be my illumination, to my delight.
12
But darkness will not be impenetrable to you, and night will illuminate like the day: for just as its darkness is, so also is its light.
13
For you have possessed my temperament. You have supported me from the womb of my mother.
14
I will confess to you, for you have been magnified terribly. Your works are miraculous, as my soul knows exceedingly well.
15
My bone, which you have made in secret, has not been hidden from you, and my substance is in accord with the lower parts of the earth.
16
Your eyes saw my imperfection, and all this shall be written in your book. Days will be formed, and no one shall be in them.
17
But to me, O God, your friends have been greatly honored. Their first ruler has been exceedingly strengthened.(e)
18
I will number them, and they will be more numerous than the sand. I rose up, and I am still with you.
19
O God, if only you would cut down sinners. You men of blood: depart from me.
20
For you say in thought: They will accept your cities in vain.(f)
21
Have I not hated those who hated you, Lord, and wasted away because of your enemies?
22
I have hated them with a perfect hatred, and they have become enemies to me.(g)
23
Examine me, O God, and know my heart. Question me, and know my paths.
24
And see if there might be in me the way of iniquity, and lead me in the way of eternity.

Du hast mich erforscht und gekannt

Zum Ende, ein Psalm Davids. Herr, du erforschest mich und erkennst mich,

du kennst mein Sitzen und mein Aufstehen.

Du verstehst meine Gedanken von ferne, du durchforschest meinen Pfad und meinen Anteil
4
und alle meine Wege siehst du voraus; denn es ist kein Wort auf meiner Zunge.
5
Siehe, Herr! du weißt alles, das neue und das Alte; du hast mich gebildet und deine Hand auf mich gelegt.
6
Allzu wunderbar ist dein Wissen für mich; zu hoch ist es, ich vermag nicht es zu erreichen!
7
Wohin soll ich gehen vor deinem Geiste? Und wohin fliehen vor deinem Angesichte?
8
Stiege ich zum Himmel empor, so bist du da; fliege ich in die Unterwelt hinab, so bist du da!
9
Erhöbe ich bei der Morgenröte meine Flügel und ließe mich nieder am äußersten Ende des Meeres,
10
so wird auch dort deine Hand mich leiten und deine Rechte mich lenken.
11
Und spräche ich: Vielleicht kann Finsternis mich decken, so wird die Nacht mir Licht bei meiner Freude.
12
Denn vor dir ist die Finsternis nicht dunkel und die Nacht hell wie der Tag; wie ihre Finsternis, so ist sein Licht!
13
Denn du hast meine Nieren in deiner Gewalt; du nahmst mich meiner von meiner Mutterleibe her an.
14
Ich preise dich, dass du so ehrfurchtgebietend bist; deine Werke sind wunderbar und meine Seele erkennt dies wohl.
15
Mein Gebein war nicht verborgen vor dir, das du im Verborgenen gebildet hast, noch mein Wesen in der Erde tiefem Schoße.
16
Da ich noch unvollendet war, sahen mich deine Augen und in dein Buch sind alle verzeichnet; ihre Tage sind bestimmt, ehe noch jemand in denselben da ist.
17
Aber bei mir sind deine Freunde, o Gott! hoch geehrt, ihr Vorrang ist überaus mächtig geworden.
18
Wollte ich sie zählen, so sind ihrer mehr als der Sand; stehe ich auf, so bin ich noch bei dir!
19
O dass du die Sünder töten wolltest, o Gott! ihr Männer des Blutes, weichet von mir!
20
Denn ihr sagt bei euch: Deine Städte werden sie vergeblich gewinnen!
21
Sollte ich die nicht hassen, Herr! die dich hassen, und über deine Feinde mich nicht härmen?
22
Mit vollstem Hasse hasse ich sie und als Feinde Gottes gelten sie mir.
23
Prüfe mich, o Gott! und erkenne mein Herz, erforsche mich und erkenne meine Pfade
24
und siehe, ob ich auf bösem Wege bin, und leite mich auf ewigem Wege!
