(a)1:7 The word ‘habitus’ refers to dress or to the more general condition of the person; the word ‘figurae’ refers to the appearance of the person. The king asks how he was dressed and what he looked like in order to identify him. The next verse gives the appearance (hairy) and dress (a leather belt around his waist), confirming that this is the correct understanding of the text.(Conte)
(b)1:10
Let fire, etc: Elias was inspired to call for fire from heaven upon these captains, who came to apprehend him; not out of a desire to gratify any private passion; but to punish the insult offered to religion, to confirm his mission, and to show how vain are the efforts of men against God, and his servants, whom he wills to protect.(Challoner)
(c)1:17
The second year of Joram, etc: Counted from the time that he was associated to the throne by his father Josaphat.(Challoner)
