- Kapitel 10 -

(1 Kings 12:1–15)

Then Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Sheche came all Israel to make him king.

And when Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat heard it, (which was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Salomon the King) he returned out of Egypt.

And they sent and called him: so came Ieroboam and all Israel, and communed with Rehoboam, saying,

Thy father made our yoke grieuous: nowe therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke, that he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.

And he sayde to them, Depart yet three dayes, then come againe vnto me. And the people departed.

And King Rehoboam tooke counsel with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while hee yet liued, saying, What counsell giue ye that I may answere this people?

And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be kinde to this people, and please them, and speake louing words to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.

But hee left the counsel of the ancient men that they had giuen him, and tooke counsell of the yong men that were brought vp with him, and waited on him.

And he sayd vnto them, What counsel giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to mee, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?

And the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answere the people that spake to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter for vs: thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loines.

Now whereas my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet increase your yoke: my father hath chastised you with roddes, but I will correct you with scourges.

Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the King had appointed saying, Come againe to me the third day.

And the King answered them sharply: and King Rehoboam left the counsel of the ancient men,

And spake to them after ye counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, but I wil incease it: my father chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

So the king hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of God that the Lord might performe his saying, which hee had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite to Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.

The Kingdom Divided

(1 Kings 12:16–19)

So when all Isarael sawe that the King would not heare them, the people answered the King, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? for we haue none inheritance in the sonue of Ishai. O Israel, euery man to your tents: now see to thine owne house, Dauid. So all Israel departed to their tents.

Howbeit Rehoboam reigned ouer the children of Israel, that dwelt in the cities of Iudah.

Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was ouer the tribute, and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.

And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.

Der Aufstand gegen Rehabeam

(1. Könige 12,1-15)

Roboam aber zog nach Sichem, denn ganz Israel war dorthin zusammen gekommen, um ihn zum Könige zu machen.

Als Jeroboam, der Sohn Nabats, dies vernahm, der in Ägypten war (dorthin war er nämlich vor Salomon geflohen), kehrte er alsbald zurück.

Und sie riefen ihn und er kam mit ganz Israel und sie redeten zu Roboam also:

Dein Vater hat uns mit sehr hartem Joche bedrückt, erleichtere du den harten Dienst, den dein Vater uns auferlegt hatte, und erleichtere uns die Last ein wenig, so werden wir dir untertan sein.

Er sprach: Kommet nach drei Tagen wieder zu mir. Als nun das Volk fortgegangen war,

beriet er sich mit den Ältesten, welche vor seinem Vater Salomon gestanden, als er noch lebte, und sprach: Was ratet ihr mir, dem Volke zu antworten?

Sie sprachen zu ihm: Wenn du diesem Volke zu Gefallen bist und sie mit milden Worten begütigst, so werden sie dir allezeit untertan sein.

Er aber verwarf den Rat der Ältesten und fing an, mit den Jünglingen zu verhandeln, die mit ihm erzogen und in seinem Gefolge waren,

und sprach zu ihnen: Was dünkt euch? Was soll ich diesem Volke antworten, das zu mir gesagt hat: Mache das Joch, das dein Vater uns auferlegt hat, leichter?

Diese aber antworteten als Jünglinge, die in Üppigkeit mit ihm erzogen waren, und sprachen: So musst du mit dem Volke reden, welches zu dir gesagt hat: Dein Vater hat unser Joch schwer gemacht, erleichtere du es; so musst du ihm antworten: Mein kleinster Finger ist dicker als meines Vaters Lenden!

Mein Vater hat euch ein schweres Joch auferlegt, ich aber werde eine größere Last hinzufügen; mein Vater hat euch mit Geißeln geschlagen, ich aber will euch mit Skorpionen schlagen.

Am dritten Tage also kam Jeroboam und das ganze Volk zu Roboam, wie er ihnen befohlen hatte.

Da gab der König eine harte Antwort, indem er den Rat der Ältesten verwarf,

und er sprach nach dem Willen der Jünglinge: Mein Vater hat euch ein schweres Joch auferlegt, ich werde es noch schwerer machen; mein Vater hat euch mit Geißeln geschlagen, ich aber will euch mit Skorpionen schlagen.

Und er hörte auf die Bitten des Volkes nicht, denn es war eine Fügung von Gott, damit seine Voraussagung erfüllt würde, die er durch Ahias, den Siloniter, Jeroboam, dem Sohne Nabats, gegeben hatte.

(1. Könige 12,16-19)

Da nun der König so hart redete, sprach das ganze Volk zu ihm also: Wir haben keinen Teil an David und kein Erbe am Sohne Isais! Kehre zu deinen Wohnungen zurück, o Israel, du aber, David, weide dein Haus! Und Israel zog in seine Wohnungen heim.

Über die Söhne Israels aber, welche in den Städten Judas wohnten, ward Roboam König.

Als nun König Roboam den Aduram, der über die Abgaben gesetzt, hinsandte, steinigten ihn die Söhne Israels zu Tode. Da stieg König Roboam eilends auf seinen Wagen und floh nach Jerusalem.

So fiel Israel vom Hause Davids ab, bis auf diesen Tag.
