- Kapitel 1 -

(1 Kings 22:51–53)

Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab:

And Ahaziah fell thorow the lattesse windowe in his vpper chamber which was in Samaria: so he was sicke: then he sent messengers, to whome he saide, Goe, and enquire of Baal-zebub the God of Ekron, if I shall recouer of this my disease.

Then the Angel of the Lord said to Eliiah the Tishbite, Arise, and goe vp to meete the messengers of the King of Samaria, and say vnto them, Is it not because there is no God in Israel, that ye goe to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?

Wherefore thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not come downe from the bed on which thou art gone vp, but shalt die the death. So Eliiah departed.

And the messengers returned vnto him, to whome he said, Why are ye nowe returned?

And they answered him, There came a man and met vs, and saide vnto vs, Goe, and returne vnto the King which sent you, and say vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Is it not because there is no God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baal-zebub the God of Ekron? Therefore thou shalt not come downe from the bed, on which thou art gone vp, but shalt die ye death.

And he saide vnto them, What maner of man was he which came and met you, and tolde you these wordes?

And they said vnto him, He was an hearie man, and girded with a girdle of lether about his loynes. Then sayde he, It is Eliiah the Tishbite.

Therefore the King sent vnto him a captaine ouer fiftie with his fiftie men, who went vp vnto him: for beholde, he sate on the toppe of a mountaine, and he saide vnto him, O man of God, the King hath commanded that thou come downe.

But Eliiah answered, and saide to the captaine ouer the fiftie, If that I be a man of God, let fire come downe from the heauen, and deuoure thee and thy fiftie. So fire came downe from the heauen and deuoured him and his fiftie.

Againe also he sent vnto him another captaine ouer fiftie, with his fiftie. Who spake, and saide vnto him, O man of God, thus the King commandeth, Come downe quickely.

But Eliiah answered, and saide vnto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come downe from the heauen, and deuoure thee and thy fiftie. So fire came downe from the heauen, and deuoured him and his fiftie.

Yet againe he sent the third captaine ouer fiftie with his fiftie. And the thirde captaine ouer fiftie went vp, and came, and fell on his knees before Eliiah, and besought him, and saide vnto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life and the life of these thy fiftie seruants be precious in thy sight.

Beholde, there came fire downe from the heauen and deuoured the two former captaines ouer fiftie with their fifties: therefore let my life nowe be precious in thy sight.

And the Angel of the Lord said vnto Eliiah, Goe downe with him, be not afraide of his presence. So he arose, and went downe with him vnto the King.

And he saide vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, (was it not because there was no God in Israel to inquire of his worde?) therefore thou shalt not come downe off the bed, on which thou art gone vp, but shalt die the death.

Jehoram Succeeds Ahaziah

So he dyed according to the worde of the Lord which Eliiah had spoken. And Iehoram began to reigne in his steade, in the seconde yeere of Iehoram the sonne of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, because he had no sonne.

Concerning the rest of the actes of Ahaziah, that he did, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Gott verurteilt Ahasja

(1. Könige 22,51-53)

Moab aber lehnte sich auf wider Israel, nachdem Achab gestorben war.

Und Ochozias fiel durch das Gitter seines Obergemaches in Samaria und ward krank. Da sandte er Boten und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin und befraget Beelzebub, den Gott von Akkaron, ob ich aus dieser Krankheit mit dem Leben davonkommen kann.

Der Engel des Herrn aber redete zu Elias, dem Thesbiter, und sprach: Mache dich auf und gehe den Boten des Königs von Samaria entgegen und sprich zu ihnen: Ist denn kein Gott in Israel, dass ihr hingehet, den Beelzebub, den Gott des Akkarons zu befragen?

Darum spricht der Herr also: Von dem Lager, das du bestiegen hast, wirst du nicht herabsteigen, sondern des Todes sterben! Und Elias ging von dannen.

Da kehrten die Boten wieder zu Ochozias zurück und dieser sprach zu ihnen: Warum seid ihr zurückgekehrt?

Sie antworteten ihm: Ein Mann begegnete uns und sprach zu uns: Gehet und kehret zurück zu dem Könige, der euch gesandt hat, und saget zu ihm: So spricht der Herr: Hast du etwa, weil kein Gott in Israel war, hingesendet, Beelzebub, den Gott Akkarons, zu befragen? Darum sollst du von dem Lager, das du bestiegen hast, nicht herabsteigen, sondern des Todes sterben!

Da sprach er zu ihnen: Welches war die Gestalt und die Kleidung des Mannes, der euch begegnete und diese Worte redete?

Sie antworteten: Es war ein haariger Mann und an den Lenden mit einem ledernen Riemen umgürtet. Da sprach er: Das ist Elias, der Thesbiter!

Hierauf sandte er einen Hauptmann über fünfzig zu ihm und die fünfzig, welche diesem untergeben waren. Dieser stieg zu ihm hinan und sprach zu ihm, der auf der Höhe des Berges saß: Mann Gottes! der König befiehlt dir herabzukommen.

Elias antwortete und sprach zu dem Hauptmann über fünfzig: Wenn ich ein Mann Gottes bin, so falle Feuer vom Himmel herab und verzehre dich und deine fünfzig! Da fiel Feuer vom Himmel und verzehrte ihn und die fünfzig, welche bei ihm waren.

Hierauf sandte er wiederum einen andern Hauptmann über fünfzig und die fünfzig mit ihm aus. Dieser sprach zu ihm: Mann Gottes! so spricht der König: Komme eilends herab!

Elias antwortete und sprach: Bin ich ein Mann Gottes, so falle Feuer vom Himmel und verzehre dich und deine fünfzig! Alsbald fiel Feuer vom Himmel und verzehrte ihn und seine fünfzig.

Nun sandte der König nochmals einen dritten Hauptmann über fünfzig und die fünfzig, welche unter ihm standen. Als dieser ankam, beugte er die Kniee vor Elias, flehte ihn an und sprach: Mann Gottes! lass doch meine Seele und die Seelen deiner Diener, die bei mir sind, nicht verächtlich vor dir sein!

Siehe, es ist Feuer vom Himmel gefallen und hat die zwei ersten Hauptleute über fünfzig verzehrt samt den fünfzigen, welche bei ihnen waren; nun aber bitte ich, erbarme dich meiner Seele.

Da redete der Engel des Herrn zu Elias und sprach: Gehe mit ihm hinab, fürchte dich nicht! Er stand also auf und ging mit ihm hinab zu dem Könige

und sprach zu diesem: So spricht der Herr: Weil du Boten gesandt hast, um Beelzebub, den Gott Akkarons, zu befragen, als ob kein Gott in Israel wäre, dessen Ausspruch du einholen könntest, deshalb wirst du von dem Lager, das du bestiegen, nicht herabsteigen, sondern wirst des Todes sterben!

So starb er nach dem Worte des Herrn, welches Elias gesprochen, und sein Bruder Joram ward König, an seiner Statt, im zweiten Jahre Jorams, des Sohnes Josaphats, des Königs von Juda, denn er hatte keinen Sohn.

Was aber sonst von Ochozias zu sagen ist, was er getan hat, ist das nicht in den Jahrbüchern der Könige von Israel beschrieben?
