- Kapitel 1 -

(Genesis 46:7–27)

Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt (euery man and his housholde came thither with Iaakob)

Reuben, Simeon, Leui, and Iudah,

Issachar, Zebulun, and Beniamin,

Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

So al the soules, that came out of the loines of Iaakob, were seuentie soules: Ioseph was in Egypt already.

Nowe Ioseph died and all his brethren, and that whole generation.

And the children of Israel brought foorth fruite and encreased in aboundance, and were multiplied, and were exceeding mightie, so that the land was full of them.

Oppression by a New King

(Acts 7:15–19)

Then there rose vp a newe King in Egypt, who knewe not Ioseph.

And he sayde vnto his people, Beholde, the people of the children of Israel are greater and mightier then we.

Come, let vs worke wisely with them, least they multiplie, and it come to passe, that if there be warre, they ioyne them selues also vnto our enemies, and fight against vs, and get them out of the land.

Therefore did they set taskemasters ouer them, to keepe the vnder with burdens: and they built the cities Pithom and Raamses for the treasures of Pharaoh.

But the more they vexed them, the more they multiplied and grewe: therefore they were more grieued against the children of Israel.

Wherefore the Egyptians by crueltie caused the children of Israel to serue.

Thus they made them weary of their liues by sore labour in clay and in bricke, and in al worke in the fielde, with all maner of bondage, which they layde vpon them most cruelly.

Moreouer the King of Egypt commanded ye midwiues of the Ebrewe women, (of which the ones name was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah)

And sayde, When ye doe the office of a midwife to the women of the Ebrewes, and see them on their stooles, if it be a sonne, then yee shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then let her liue.

Notwithstanding ye midwiues feared God, and did not as the King of Egypt commanded them, but preserued aliue the men children.

Then the King of Egypt called for the midwiues, and sayde vnto them, Why haue yee done thus, and haue preserued aliue the men children?

And the midwiues answered Pharaoh, Because the Ebrewe women are not as the women of Egypt: for they are liuely, and are deliuered yer the midwife come at them.

God therefore prospered the midwiues, and the people multiplied and were very mightie.

And because ye midwiues feared God, therefore he made them houses.

Then Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Euery man childe that is borne, cast yee into the riuer, but reserue euery maide childe aliue.

Israels Leidensweg in Ägypten

(1. Mose 46,7-27)

Dies sind die Namen der Söhne Israels, die mit Jakob in Ägypten einzogen; ein jeder zog mit seiner Familie ein:

Ruben, Simeon, Levi, Judas,

Issachar, Zabulon, Benjamin,

Dan, Nephthali, Gad, Aser.

Und es waren alle die Seelen, die hervorgingen aus den Lenden Jakobs, zusammen siebzig; Joseph aber war in Ägypten.

Hierauf starb er, und alle seine Brüder, und jenes ganze Geschlecht.

Und die Söhne Israels wuchsen und mehrten sich, als sprossten sie aus der Erde hervor, und wurden überaus zahlreich, und erfüllten das Land.

(Apostelgeschichte 7,15-19)

Unterdessen stand ein neuer König in Ägypten auf, der von Joseph nichts wissen wollte;

der sprach zu seinem Volke: Sehet, das Volk der Söhne Israels ist zahlreich und stärker als wir.

Wohlan, wir wollen es mit weisem Vorbedacht unterdrücken, dass es sich nicht allzu sehr mehre und, wenn ein Krieg gegen uns entstände, sich zu unsern Feinden schlage und, wenn wir besiegt werden, aus dem Lande wegziehe.

Er setzte also Fronvögte über sie, um sie mit schweren Arbeiten nieder zu halten, und sie erbauten dem Pharao die Vorratsstädte Phithom und Ramesses.

Aber je mehr jene sie bedrückten, desto mehr nahmen sie zu und wuchsen.

Und die Ägypter hassten die Söhne Israel, und quälten sie, und höhnten sie,

und verbitterten ihnen das Leben durch harte Arbeit in Lehm und Ziegeln, und durch allerlei Frondienste, mit denen sie dieselben auf dem Felde belasteten.

Der König von Ägypten aber sprach zu den Hebammen der Hebräer, von denen eine Sephora, die andere Phua hieß,

und gebot ihnen: Wenn ihr den Hebräerinnen beisteht und die Zeit der Geburt kommt, so tötet das Kind, wenn es ein Knabe ist; ist es aber ein Mädchen, so lasset es am Leben.

Die Hebammen aber fürchteten Gott und taten nicht nach dem Befehle des Königs von Ägypten, sondern ließen auch die Knaben am Leben.

Da ließ der König sie zu sich rufen und sprach: Was habt ihr getan, dass ihr die Knaben am Leben gelassen habt?

Sie antworteten: Die Hebräerinnen sind nicht wie die ägyptischen Frauen, denn sie verstehen sich auf die Geburtshilfe und gebären, ehe wir zu ihnen kommen.

Darum ließ Gott es den Hebammen wohl ergehen, und das Volk wuchs und ward sehr stark.

Und weil die Hebammen Gott fürchteten, so gab er ihnen Nachkommenschaft.

Da gebot Pharao seinem gesamten Volke und sprach: Alle Knaben, welche geboren werden, werfet in den Fluß; alle Mädchen lasset am Leben.
