- Kapitel 8 -

Afterward the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Goe vnto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord, Let my people goe, that they may serue me:

And if thou wilt not let them goe, beholde, I will smite all thy countrey with frogges:

And the riuer shall scral ful of frogges, which shall goe vp and come into thine house, and into thy chamber, where thou sleepest, and vpon thy bed, and into the house of thy seruants, and vpon thy people, and into thine ouens, and into thy kneading troughes.

Yea, the frogges shall climbe vp vpon thee, and on thy people, and vpon all thy seruants.

Also the Lord said vnto Moses, Say thou vnto Aaron, Stretch out thine hande with thy rod vpon the streames, vpon the riuers, and vpon the ponds, and cause frogs to come vp vpon the land of Egypt.

Then Aaron stretched out his hand vpon the waters of Egypt, and the frogges came vp, and couered the land of Egypt.

And the sorcerers did likewise with their sorceries, and brought frogges vp vpon the land of Egypt.

Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Pray ye vnto the Lord, that hee may take away the frogges from mee, and from my people, and I will let the people goe, that they may doe sacrifice vnto the Lord.

And Moses said vnto Pharaoh, Concerning me, euen command when I shall pray for thee, and for thy seruants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogges from thee and from thine houses, that they may remaine in the riuer only.

Then he said, To morowe. And he answered, Be it as thou hast said, that thou maiest know, that there is none like vnto the Lord our God.

So the frogges shall depart from thee, and from thine houses, and from thy seruantes, and from thy people: onely they shall remaine in the riuer.

Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cryed vnto the Lord concerning the frogges, which hee had sent vnto Pharaoh.

And the Lord did according to the saying of Moses: so the frogges died in the houses, in the townes, and in the fieldes.

And they gathered the together by heaps, and the land stanke of them.

But when Pharaoh sawe that hee had rest giuen him, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not vnto them, as the Lord had said.

The Third Plague: Gnats

Againe the Lord sayd vnto Moses, Say vnto Aaron, Stretche out the rod, and smite the dust of the earth, that it may bee turned to lyce throughout all the land of Egypt.

And they did so: for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth: and lyce came vpon man and vpon beast: all the dust of the earth was lyce throughout all the land of Egypt.

Nowe the enchanters assaied likewise with their enchantments to bring forth lyce, but they could not. So the lyce were vpon man and vpon beast.

Then saide the enchanters vnto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God. But Pharaohs heart remained obstinate, and hee hearkened not vnto them, as the Lord had said.

The Fourth Plague: Flies

Moreouer the Lord sayd to Moses, Rise vp earely in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh (lo, hee will come forth vnto the water) and say vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Let my people go, that they may serue me.

Els, if thou wilt not let my people goe, behold, I will send swarmes of flies both vpon thee, and vpon thy seruants, and vpon thy people, and into thine houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shalbe full of swarmes of flies, and the ground also whereon they are.

But ye land of Goshe, where my people are, wil I cause to be wonderfull in that day, so that no swarmes of flies shalbe there, that thou maiest know that I am the Lord in the middes of the earth.

And I will make a deliuerance of my people from thy people: to morowe shall this miracle be.

And the Lord did so: for there came great swarmes of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his seruants houses, so that through all the lande of Egypt, the earth was corrupt by the swarmes of flies.

Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and saide, Goe, doe sacrifice vnto your God in this lande.

But Moses answered, It is not meete to do so: for then we shoulde offer vnto the Lord our God that, which is an abomination vnto the Egyptians. Loe, can we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and they not stone vs?

Let vs go three dayes iourney in the desert, and sacrifice vnto the Lord our God, as he hath commanded vs.

And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice vnto the Lord your God in the wildernesse: but goe not farre away, pray for me.

And Moses said, Behold, I will go out from thee, and pray vnto the Lord, that the swarmes of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his seruants, and from his people to morowe: but let Pharaoh from hencefoorth deceiue no more, in not suffering the people to sacrifice vnto the Lord.

So Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed vnto the Lord.

And the Lord did according to the saying of Moses, and the swarmes of flies departed from Pharaoh, from his seruants, and from his people, and there remained not one.

Yet Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, and did not let the people goe.

Die zweite Plage: Frösche

Da sprach der Herr zu Moses: Gehe zu Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der Herr: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir Opfer bringe.

Wenn du es aber nicht ziehen lassen willst, siehe, so werde ich dein ganzes Gebiet mit Fröschen schlagen.

Der Strom wird von Fröschen wimmeln, und sie werden heraufkommen und bis in dein Haus, und in dein Schlafgemach und auf dein Ruhebett dringen, sowie in die Wohnungen deiner Diener, und unter deine Untertanen, auch in deine Backöfen und auf deine Speisevorräte;

ja zu dir und deinem Volk, und zu allen deinen Dienern werden die Frösche eindringen.

Und der Herr sprach zu Moses: Sprich zu Aaron: Strecke deine Hand aus über die Flüsse und über die Bäche und die Teiche, und lass Frösche über das Land Ägypten herauskommen.

Da streckte Aaron seine Hand über die Gewässer Ägyptens aus, und es kamen Frösche hervor und bedeckten das ganze Land Ägypten.

Aber auch die Zauberer taten desgleichen mittels ihrer Beschwörungen, und ließen Frösche über das ganze Land Ägypten kommen.

Da ließ Pharao den Moses und Aaron rufen und sprach zu ihnen: Bittet den Herrn, dass er die Frösche von mir und von meinem Volke hinwegnehme, dann werde ich das Volk ziehen lassen, damit es dem Herrn Opfer bringe.

Moses sprach zu Pharao: Bestimme mir, wann ich für dich, und für deine Diener, und für dein Volk Fürbitte einlegen soll, dass die Frösche von dir, und von deinem Hause entfernt werden, und nur im Strome solche übrigbleiben.

Er antwortete: Morgen. Und jener sprach: Ich will nach deinem Worte tun, damit du erfahrest, dass niemand ist, wie der Herr unser Gott.

Die Frösche werden von dir und deinem Hause, und von deinen Dienern, und von deinem Volke weichen, und nur im Strome werden solche übrigbleiben.

Als nun Moses und Aaron Pharao verlassen hatten, rief Moses zum Herrn seinem Versprechen gemäß, das er der Frösche wegen dem Pharao gegeben hatte.

Und der Herr tat nach der Bitte Moses; und es starben die Frösche in den Häusern, in den Höfen, und auf den Feldern.

Und man brachte sie auf sehr große Haufen zusammen, und das Land ward voll üblen Geruches.

Als aber Pharao sah, dass ihm Ruhe vergönnt war, verhärtete er sein Herz und hörte nicht auf sie, wie der Herr es vorausgesagt hatte.

Die dritte Plage: Läuse

Und der Herr sprach zu Moses: Sprich zu Aaron: Strecke deinen Stab aus und schlage damit den Staub der Erde; und dieser soll im ganzen Lande Ägypten zu Stechmücken werden.

Da taten sie also. Aaron streckte seine Hand aus, den Stab in derselben haltend; und er schlug damit den Staub der Erde, da kamen Stechmücken über Menschen und Vieh; aller Staub der Erde ward zu Stechmücken im ganzen Lande Ägypten.

Da suchten die Zauberer mit ihren Beschwörungen desgleichen zu tun, um Stechmücken hervorzubringen, aber sie konnten es nicht; und die Stechmücken kamen sowohl über Menschen wie über das Vieh.

Und die Zauberer sprachen zu Pharao: das ist Gottes Finger! Aber Pharaos Herz verhärtete sich, und er hörte nicht auf sie, wie der Herr vorhergesagt hatte.

Die vierte Plage: Fliegen

Hierauf sprach der Herr zu Moses: Mache dich morgens in der Frühe auf und tritt vor Pharao; denn er wird an das Wasser hinausgehen, und sage zu ihm: So spricht der Herr: Lass mein Volk ziehen, dass es mir Opfer bringe!

Wenn du es aber nicht ziehen lässest, siehe, so werde ich über dich, und über deine Diener, und über dein Volk, und über deine Häuser alle Arten von Fliegen kommen lassen, und es sollen die Häuser der Ägypter voller Fliegen verschiedener Art werden, ja der ganze Boden, auf dem sie sich befinden.

Zu gleicher Zeit werde ich im Lande Gessen, in dem mein Volk weilt, wunderbar bewirken, dass daselbst keine Fliegen sein sollen; und du sollst erkennen, dass ich der Herr auf Erden bin.

Und ich werde eine Scheidung machen zwischen meinem Volke und deinem Volke; morgen soll dieses Wunderzeichen geschehen.

Und der Herr tat also. Da kamen sehr lästige Fliegenschwärme in die Häuser Pharaos und seiner Diener, und über das ganze Land Ägypten; und das Land ward von diesen Fliegen verheert.

Da ließ Pharao Moses und Aaron rufen und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin und bringet eurem Gott hier im Lande Opfer dar!

Moses aber sprach: So kann es nicht geschehen; denn wir werden dem Herrn, unserm Gott, Opfer darbringen, welche den Ägyptern ein Greuel sind. Wenn wir das, was die Ägypter verehren, vor ihren Augen schlachten, so werden sie uns steinigen.

Wir wollen drei Tagereisen weit in die Wüste ziehen und dem Herrn, unserm Gott, Opfer bringen, wie er uns geboten hat.

Pharao sprach: Ich will euch ziehen lassen, damit ihr dem Herrn, euerem Gott, in der Wüste Opfer bringt, doch, dass ihr euch nicht weiter entfernt! Betet für mich.

Da sprach Moses: Sobald ich dich verlassen habe, werde ich zum Herrn beten, und die Fliegen werden morgen von Pharao, und von seinen Dienern, und von seinem Volke weichen; doch täusche uns nicht ferner mehr, dass du das Volk doch nicht ziehen lässest, dem Herrn ein Opfer zu bringen.

Hierauf verließ Moses den Pharao, und betete zu dem Herrn.

Dieser aber tat, wie er bat, und nahm die Fliegen von Pharao und seinen Dienern, und seinem Volke hinweg, es blieb auch nicht eine übrig.

Aber Pharaos Herz ward verhärtet, so dass er auch dieses Mal das Volk nicht ziehen ließ.
