- Kapitel 33 -

Again, the woorde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,

Sonne of man, speake to the children of thy people, and say vnto them, When I bring the sworde vpon a lande, if the people of the lande take a man from among them, and make him their watchman,

If when hee seeth the sworde come vpon ye land, he blow the trumpet, and warne the people,

Then hee that heareth the sounde of the trumpet, and will not bee warned, if the sworde come, and take him away, his blood shall be vpon his owne head.

For he heard the sound of the trumpet, and woulde not bee admonished: therefore his blood shall be vpon him: but he that receiueth warning, shall saue his life.

But if the watchman see the sworde come, and blowe not the trumpet, and the people be not warned: if the sworde come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away for his iniquitie, but his blood will I require at the watchmans hande.

So thou, O sonne of man, I haue made thee a watchman vnto the house of Israel: therefore thou shalt heare the woorde at my mouth, and admonish them from me.

When I shall say vnto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt die the death, if thou doest not speake, and admonish the wicked of his way, that wicked man shall die for his iniquitie, but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Neuerthelesse, If thou warne the wicked of his way, to turne from it, if he doe not turne from his way, he shall die for his iniquitie, but thou hast deliuered thy soule.

The Message of the Watchman

Therefore, O thou sonne of man, speake vnto the house of Israel, Thus yee speake and say, If our transgressions and our sinnes bee vpon vs, and we are consumed because of them, howe should we then liue?

Say vnto them, As I liue, sayeth the Lord God, I desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turne from his way and liue: turne you, turne you from your euill waies, for why will ye die, O ye house of Israel?

Therefore thou sonne of man, saye vnto the children of thy people, The righteousnesse of the righteous shall not deliuer him in the day of his transgression, nor the wickednesse of the wicked shall cause him to fall therein, in the day that he returneth from his wickednesse, neither shall the righteous liue for his righteousnesse in the day that he sinneth.

When I shall say vnto the righteous, that he shall surely liue, if he trust to his owne righteousnes, and commit iniquitie, all his righteousnes shall be no more remembred, but for his iniquitie that he hath committed, he shall die for the same.

Againe when I shall say vnto the wicked, thou shalt die the death, if he turne from his sinne, and doe that which is lawfull and right,

To wit, if the wicked restore the pledge, and giue againe that he had robbed, and walke in the statutes of life, without committing iniquitie, he shall surely liue, and not die.

None of his sinnes that he hath comitted, shall be mentioned vnto him: because he hath done that, which is lawful, and right, he shall surely liue.

Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equall: but their owne way is vnequall.

When the righteous turneth from his righteousnesse, and committeth iniquitie, he shall euen die thereby.

But if the wicked returne from his wickednesse, and doe that which is lawfull and right, hee shall liue thereby.

Yet yee say, The way of the Lord is not equall. O ye house of Israel, I will iudge you euery one after his waies.

Word of Jerusalem’s Fall

Also in the twelfth yere of our captiuitie, in the tenth moneth, and in the fift day of the moneth, one that had escaped out of Ierusalem, came vnto me, and said, The citie is smitten.

Now the hand of the Lord had bene vpon me in ye euening afore hee that had escaped, came, and had opened my mouth vntill he came to me in the morning: and when hee had opened my mouth, I was no more dumme.

Againe the worde of the Lord came vnto me, and saide,

Sonne of man, these that dwel in the desolate places of the land of Israel, talke and say, Abraham was but one, and hee possessed the lande: but we are many, therefore the lande shall be giuen vs in possession.

Wherefore say vnto them, Thus saieth the Lord God, Ye eate with the blood, and lift vp your eyes towarde your idoles, and sheade blood: should ye then possesse the land?

Ye leane vpon your swordes: ye worke abomination, and yee defile euery one his neighbours wife: should ye then possesse the land?

Say thus vnto them, Thus saieth the Lord God, As I liue, so surely they that are in the desolate places, shall fall by the sword: and him that is in the open field, will I giue vnto the beasts to be deuoured: and they that be in the forts and in the caues, shall die of the pestilence.

For I will lay the land desolate and waste, and the pompe of her strength shall cease: and the moutaines of Israel shalbe desolate, and none shall passe through.

Then shall they know that I am the Lord, when I haue laid ye land desolate and wast, because of al their abominations, that they haue committed.

Also thou sonne of man, the children of thy people that talke of thee by the wals and in the dores of houses, and speake one to another, euery one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and heare what is the word that commeth from the Lord.

For they come vnto thee, as the people vseth to come: and my people sit before thee, and heare thy wordes, but they will not doe them: for with their mouthes they make iestes, and their heart goeth after their couetousnesse.

And loe, thou art vnto them, as a iesting song of one that hath a pleasant voyce, and can sing well: for they heare thy woordes, but they doe them not.

And when this commeth to passe (for loe, it will come) then shall they know, that a Prophet hath bene among them.

Der Wächter und seine Botschaft

Und es erging das Wort des Herrn an mich also:

Menschensohn! rede zu den Söhnen deines Volkes und sprich zu ihnen: Wenn ich das Schwert über ein Land herführe und das Volk des Landes nimmt aus seinen Geringsten einen Mann und stellt ihn für sich zum Wächter auf

und dieser sieht das Schwert über das Land kommen und stößt in die Trompete und verkündet es dem Volke,

und wenn dann einer, wer immer es sei, den Klang der Trompete hört, aber nicht achthat und das Schwert kommt und rafft ihn hinweg; so wird sein Blut auf seinem eigenen Haupte sein.

Er hat ja den Klang der Trompete gehört, aber nicht achtgehabt, so soll sein Blut auf ihn fallen; hätte er sich geschützt, so würde er seine Seele gerettet haben.

Wenn aber der Wächter das Schwert kommen sieht und nicht in die Trompete stößt und das Volk sich nicht schützt und das Schwert kommt und es rafft eine Seele von ihnen weg, so wird diese zwar ob ihrer Verschuldung dahingerafft, aber ihr Blut werde ich von des Wächters Hand fordern.

Dich nun, Menschensohn! habe ich zum Wächter über das Haus Israel bestellt; darum, wenn du ein Wort aus meinem Munde hörst, so verkünde es ihnen in meinem Namen.

Wenn ich zu dem Gottlosen sage: Gottloser, du wirst des Todes sterben, und du sagst ihm dies nicht, damit der Gottlose sich warnen lasse vor seinem Wege, so wird wohl der Gottlose selbst durch seine Verschuldung sterben, aber sein Blut will ich von deiner Hand fordern.

Hast du aber den Gottlosen verkündet, dass er sich von seinem Wandel bekehren soll, und er bekehrt sich nicht von seinem Wege, so wird er selbst ob seiner Verschuldung sterben, du aber hast deine Seele gerettet.

Darum, o Menschensohn! Sprich zu dem Hause Israel: So habt ihr geredet und gesagt: Unsere Missetaten und unsere Sünden lasten auf uns und wir verschmachten unter ihnen, wie sollten wir also leben können?

Sprich zu ihnen: So wahr ich lebe, spricht der Herr, Gott, ich will nicht den Tod des Gottlosen, sondern dass der Gottlose sich bekehre von seinem Wege und lebe. Bekehret euch, bekehret euch von euern sehr schlimmen Wegen! Denn warum wollt ihr des Todes sterben, Haus Israel?

Die Fairness von Gottes Gericht

Du also, o Menschensohn! sprich zu den Söhnen deines Volkes: Die Gerechtigkeit wird den Gottlosen nicht retten an dem Tage, da er sündigt, und die Gottlosigkeit wird dem Gottlosen nicht schaden an dem Tage, da er sich von seiner Gottlosigkeit bekehrt; aber auch der Gerechte wird nicht am Leben bleiben können durch seine Gerechtigkeit an dem Tage, an welchem er sündigt.

Wenn ich schon zu den Gerechten sage, dass er ganz gewiss leben soll, er verlässt sich aber auf seine Gerechtigkeit und tut Böses, so sollen alle seine Gerechtigkeiten der Vergessenheit anheimfallen und durch seine Sünde, die er begangen, durch diese soll er sterben.

Wenn ich aber zu dem Gottlosen sage: Du wirst des Todes sterben! und er Buße tut für seine Sünde und Recht und Gerechtigkeit übt,

das Pfand zurückgibt, er, der zuvor gottlos war, und das Geraubte wieder erstattet, nach den Geboten des Lebens wandelt und kein Unrecht begeht: wahrlich, der soll leben und nicht sterben!

Alle seine Sünden, die er zuvor begangen, sollen ihm nicht angerechnet werden, denn er hat Recht und Gerechtigkeit geübt; er wird gewisslich leben.

Es sagen die Söhne deines Volkes: Der Weg des Herrn ist nicht recht! Während doch ihr eigener Weg unrecht ist.

Denn wenn der gerechte sich von seiner Gerechtigkeit abwendet und Böses begeht, so wird er deswegen sterben.

Und wenn der Gottlose sich von seiner Gottlosigkeit abwendet und Recht und Gerechtigkeit übt, so wird er daselbst leben.

Und ihr sagt: Der Weg des Herrn ist nicht recht! Aber einen jeden von euch, Haus Israel! werde ich nach seinem Wandel richten.

Der Fall von Jerusalem

Und es geschah im zwölften Jahre, im zehnten Monat, am fünften des Monats nach unserer Wegführung, kam zu mir ein Flüchtling aus Jerusalem und meldete: Die Stadt ist zerstört!

Die Hand des Herrn aber war über mich gekommen am Abend, ehe der Flüchtling ankam; er hatte meinen Mund aufgetan, ehe jener am Morgen zu mir kam, und ich schwieg nicht länger, nachdem mein Mund aufgetan war.

Die Ursache von Judas Untergang

Und es erging das Wort des Herrn an mich also:

Menschensohn! die in jenen Trümmerstätten auf Israels Boden hausen, sprechen also: Ein einzelner Mann war Abraham und er erhielt das Land zu eigen, unser aber sind viele, so ist auch uns das Land zum Besitze gegeben.

Deshalb sprich zu ihnen: Also spricht der Herr, Gott: Die ihr Blut esset, eure Augen zu euern Scheusalen erhebt und Blut vergießt, ihr solltet das Land das Erbe besitzen?

Ihr verlasst euch auf eure Schwerter, begeht Greuel und ein jeder schändet seines Nächsten Weib, und ihr solltet das Land als Erbe besitzen?

Sprich zu ihnen also: So spricht der Herr, Gott: So wahr ich lebe! sollen die, die in den Trümmerstätten hausen, durch das Schwert fallen; und wer auf dem Felde ist, soll den wilden Tieren zum Verschlingen dahingegeben werden; und die in Burgen und Höhlen sind, sollen durch die Seuche sterben.

Und ich werde das Land zur Wüstenei und Einöde machen und der Stolz seiner Macht soll ein Ende haben und die Berge Israels sollen einsam werden, denn niemand wird mehr über sie dahinziehen.

Und sie sollen erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, wenn ich ihr Land wüste und öde gemacht habe wegen aller ihrer Greuel, die sie begangen haben.

Hören und Nichtstun

O Menschensohn! die Söhne deines Volkes reden über dich längs der Mauern und in den Türen der Häuser und sprechen einer zu dem anderen, ein jeder zu seinem Nächsten: Kommet und lasset uns hören, was das für ein Ausspruch ist, der von dem Herrn ausgeht!

Und sie werden zu dir kommen, wie ein Volk sich versammelt, und werden sich vor dir als mein Volk niedersetzen und dein Wort hören, doch nicht darnach tun; denn sie machen es zu einem Spottliede in ihrem Munde und ihr Herz jagt ihrer Habsucht nach.

Und wie ein schönes Lied bist du ihnen, das mit lieblichem und süßem Tone gesungen wird; sie hören deine Worte, aber sie tun nicht darnach.

Aber wenn das eintrifft, was vorhergesagt ist (und siehe, es trifft ein), dann werden sie erkennen, dass ein Prophet unter ihnen gewesen ist.
