- Kapitel 20 -

In the yeere that Tartan came to Ashdod, (when Sargon King of Asshur sent him) and had fought against Ashdod, and taken it,

At the same time spake the Lord by ye hand of Isaiah the sonne of Amoz, saying, Goe, and loose the sackecloth from thy loynes, and put off thy shooe from thy foote. And he did so, walking naked and barefoote.

And the Lord said, Like as my seruant Isaiah hath walked naked, and barefoote three yeeres, as a signe and wonder vpon Egypt, and Ethiopia,

So shall the King of Asshur take away the captiuitie of Egypt, and the captiuitie of Ethiopia, both yong men and olde men, naked and barefoote, with their buttockes vncouered, to the shame of Egypt.

And they shall feare, and be ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.

Then shall the inhabitant of this yle say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we fledde for helpe to be deliuered from the King of Asshur, and howe shall we be deliuered?

Das Zeichen gegen Ägypten und Äthiopien

In dem Jahre, in dem Tharthan nach Azot kam, als ihn Sargon, der König der Assyrier, gesandt hatte und er gegen Azot kämpfte und es einnahm,

zu jener Zeit redete der Herr durch Isaias, den Sohn des Amos, und sprach: Gehe und löse das Bußgewand von deinen Lenden und lege deine Schuhe ab von deinen Füßen! Und er tat und ging ohne Obergewand und barfuß einher.

Da sprach der Herr: Wie mein Knecht Isaias ohne Obergewand und barfuß einhergeht, wird er drei Jahre lang ein Zeichen und Wunder für Ägypten und für Äthiopien sein:

so wird der König von Assyrien die gefangenen Ägypter und die ausgewanderten Äthiopier forttreiben, sowohl Jünglinge wie Greise, nackt und barfuß, mit entblößtem Gesäß, zur Schande für Ägypten.

Dann werden sie verzagen und wegen Äthiopiens beschämt werden, auf das sie hofften, und wegen Ägyptens, dessen sie sich rühmten.

Und die Bewohner dieses Küstenlandes werden an jenem Tage sprechen: Sehet, auf diese setzten wir unsere Hoffnung und zu ihnen flohen wir um Hilfe, dass sie uns vor dem Könige von Assyrien erretteten; wie sollten wir entrinnen können?
