- Kapitel 3 -

For this reason, holy brothers, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and Chief Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus,

being faithful to Him who appointed Him, as also Moses [was] in all His house.

For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who builds it has more honor than the house.

For every house is built by someone, and He who built all things [is] God,

and Moses [was] indeed steadfast in all His house, as an attendant, for a testimony of those things that were to be spoken—

but Christ, as a Son over His house, whose house we are, if we hold fast the boldness and the rejoicing of the hope to the end.

Do Not Harden Your Hearts

(Psalm 95:1–11)

For this reason, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you may hear His voice—

you may not harden your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of the temptation in the wilderness,

in which your fathers tempted Me; they proved Me, and saw My works [for] forty years;

for this reason I was grieved with that generation and said, They always go astray in [their] heart, and these have not known My ways;

so I swore in My anger, They will [not] enter into My rest.”

The Peril of Unbelief

Watch out, brothers, lest there will be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in the falling away from the living God,

but exhort one another every day, while [it] is called “Today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin,

for we have become partakers of the Christ, if we may hold fast the confidence [we had] at the beginning to the end,

as it is said, “Today, if you may hear His voice, you may not harden your hearts, as in the provocation.”

For who [were those], having heard, [that] provoked, but not all those having come out of Egypt through Moses?

But with whom was He grieved forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?

And to whom did He swear that they will not enter into His rest, except to those who did not believe?

And we see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.

Der Sohn war treu

Demnach, heilige Brüder, die ihr der himmlischen Berufung teilhaftig seid, sehet auf den Gesandten und Hohenpriester unsers Bekenntnisses, Jesus,

der treu ist der, der ihn dazu bestellt hat, wie auch Moses gewesen in seinem ganzen Hause.

Denn um so höherer Herrlichkeit ist jener vor Moses gewürdigt, um wie viel höher der an Ehre über dem Hause steht, welcher es gebaut hat.

Jedes Haus wird ja von jemand gebaut, der aber, welcher alles erschaffen hat, ist Gott.

Und Moses war zwar treu in seinem ganzen Hause als Diener zur Bezeugung dessen, was verkündet werden sollte;

Christus aber als Sohn über dem ihm eigenen Hause. Dieses Haus sind wir, wenn wir anders die Zuversicht und den Ruhm der Hoffnung bis an´s Ende unerschütterlich festhalten.

Seid treu

(Psalm 95,1-11)

Darum, wie der heilige Geist spricht: Heute, wenn ihr seine Stimme höret,

verhärtet eure Herzen nicht, wie bei der Verbitterung am Tage der Versuchung in der Wüste,

wo mich eure Väter versuchten, mich auf die Probe stellten, und doch sahen sie meine Werke

vierzig Jahre hindurch. Darum ward ich zornig über dieses Geschlecht, und sprach: Immerdar gehen sie irre mit ihrem Herzen. Sie aber erkannten meine Wege nicht.

So schwur ich denn in meinem Zorne: Sie sollen nicht eingehen in meine Ruhe!

Sehet zu, Brüder! dass ja nicht in einem von euch ein böses Herz des Unglaubens sei, geneigt, abzufallen von dem lebendigen Gott;

sondern ermahnet euch einander jeden Tag, so lange es noch „Heute“ heißt, damit keiner von euch verhärtet werde durch den Trug der Sünde.

Denn wir sind Christi teilhaftig geworden, wenn wir anders die anfängliche Zuversicht bis an´s Ende unerschütterlich festhalten.

So lange es heißt: Heute, wenn ihr seine Stimme höret, verhärtet eure Herzen nicht, wie bei jener Verbitterung.

Das Scheitern der Wanderer in der Wüste

Denn einige erbitterten ihn, obwohl sie jene Worte gehört hatten, aber nicht alle, welche unter Moses aus Ägypten ausgezogen waren.

Und welchen zürnte er vierzig Jahre lang? Waren es nicht jene, welche gesündigt hatten, deren Leiber in der Wüste hingestreckt wurden?

Welchen aber schwur er, sie sollten in seine Ruhe nicht eingehen, wenn nicht denen, welche ungläubig waren?

So sehen wir, dass sie wegen des Unglaubens nicht eingehen konnten.
