- Kapitel 24 -

The army of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon captured Jehoiachin, the son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, and his officials, and all his skilled workers and took them to Babylon. After that happened, Yahweh gave me a vision. In the vision I saw two baskets of figs that had been placed in front of the temple.

One basket was full of good figs, like the kind that ripen first. The other basket was filled with figs that were bad, with the result that they could not be eaten.

Then Yahweh said to me, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” I replied, “I see some figs. Some are very good ones, but some are very bad, with the result that no one would eat them.”

Then Yahweh gave me this message:

“This is what I, Yahweh, the God whom the Israelite people say that they worship, say: The good figs represent the people of Judah whom I exiled to Babylonia. I sent them there for their own good.

And I will not exile them again, instead I will bring them back to this land and let them build up houses and cities again. They will be like plants that grow and prosper and are never cut down.

I will enable them to desire to know in their inner beings that I am Yahweh. They will be my people, and I will be their God, because they will return to me sincerely.

But I, Yahweh, also say, the bad figs represent Zedekiah, the king of Judah, and his officials, and all the other people who remain in Jerusalem, and those who have gone to Egypt. I will do to them like people do to rotten figs.

I will cause them to experience calamities, with the result that people in every nation on the earth will be horrified, and will hate them because they are evil people. Wherever I scatter them, people will make fun of them, and say that they are disgraced, and ridicule them, and curse them.

And I will cause them to experience wars and famines and diseases, until they have disappeared from Israel, this land which I gave to them and to their ancestors.”

Das Zeichen der zwei Körbe mit Feigen

Der Herr ließ mich schauen; und siehe, da waren zwei Körbe voll Feigen vor dem Tempel des Herrn aufgestellt, nachdem Nabuchodonosor, der König von Babylon, Jechonias, den Sohn Joakims, den König von Juda, seine Fürsten und die Werkleute und Schlosser von Jerusalem weggeführt und nach Babylon gebracht hatte.

Der eine Korb enthielt sehr gute Feigen, wie die Frühfeigen zu sein pflegen; in dem andern Korbe aber waren sehr schlechte Feigen, die man nicht essen konnte, so schlecht waren sie.

Da sprach der Herr zu mir: Was siehst du Jeremias? Ich antwortete: Feigen, gute Feigen, sehr gute Feigen, und schlechte, sehr schlechte Feigen, die man nicht essen kann, so schlecht sind sie.

Da erging das Wort des Herrn an mich, also:

So spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels: Wie diese Feigen gut sind, so werde ich die Gefangenen Judas, welche ich aus diesem Orte in das Land der Chaldäer geschickt habe, zum Heile ansehen.

Und ich will meine Augen in Gnaden auf sie richten und sie in dies Land zurückführen und ich will sie aufbauen und nicht zerstören, sie pflanzen und nicht ausreißen.

Und ich will ihnen Einsicht geben, mich zu erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, und sie sollen mein Volk sein und ich werde ihr Gott sein, denn sie werden sich zu mir bekehren von ganzem Herzen.

Aber wie die anderen Feigen sehr schlecht und so schlecht sind, dass man sie nicht essen kann, spricht der Herr, so will ich es mit Sedekias, dem Könige von Juda, und mit seinen Fürsten und mit den Überresten von Jerusalem machen, sowohl mit denen, die in dieser Stadt zurückgeblieben sind, wie mit denen, die im Lande Ägypten wohnen.

Ich will sie zur Misshandlung und Heimsuchung allen Reihen der Erde hingeben, zur Schmach, zum Spott, zum Sprichwort und zum Fluche an allen Orten, wohin ich sie verstoßen werde.

Ich will Schwert, Hunger und Pest gegen sie aussenden, bis sie aus dem Lande ausgerottet sind, das ich ihnen und ihren Vätern gegeben habe.
