- Kapitel 16 -

The assignment of land for the tribe of Joseph extended from the Jordan at Jericho, east of the springs of Jericho, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill country of Bethel.

Then it went from Bethel to Luz and passed along to Ataroth, the territory of the Archites.

Then it went down westward to the territory of the Japhletites, as far as the territory of Lower Beth Horon, and then on to Gezer; it ended at the sea.

It was in this way that the tribes of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim received their inheritance.

The territory of the tribe of Ephraim that was assigned to their clans was as follows: The border of their inheritance on the east went from Ataroth Addar as far as Upper Beth Horon,

and from there it continued to the sea. From Michmethath on the north it turned eastward toward Taanath Shiloh and passed beyond it on the east to Janoah.

Then it went down from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah, and then reached Jericho, ending at the Jordan.

From Tappuah the border went westward to the brook of Kanah and ended at the sea. This was the inheritance of the tribe of Ephraim, assigned to their clans,

together with the cities that were chosen for the tribe of Ephraim within the inheritance of the tribe of Manasseh-all the cities, as well as their villages.

They did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so that the Canaanites live within Ephraim to this day, but these people were made to do forced labor.

Ephraim und West-Manasse

Das Los für die Söhne Josephs fiel vom Jordan, Jericho gegenüber und dessen Wasser, ostwärts, die Wüste, die sich von Jericho in das Gebirge nach Bethel hinaufzieht;

worauf die Grenze sich von Bethel nach Luza fortsetzt und zu dem Gebiete von Archi, Ataroth hinübergeht

und westlich herabsteigt an die Grenze von Jephleti bis zum Gebiete von Unter-Bethhoron, und Gazer; und sein Gebiet endet am großen Meere.

Dies erhielten die Söhne Josephs, Manasses und Ephraim als Besitz.

Das Land Ephraim

Als Grenze der Söhne Ephraims nach ihren verschiedenen Geschlechtern und als ihr Besitztum wurde bestimmt gegen Osten Ataroth-Addar bis Ober-Bethhoron;

alsdann läuft die Grenze weiter bis zum Meere. Machmethath aber liegt gegen Norden, dort wendet sich die Grenze ostwärts nach Thanathselo, und geht östlich nach Janoe hinüber;

von Janoe geht sie hinab nach Ataroth und Naaratha, kommt nach Jericho und läuft am Jordan aus.

Von Taphua geht sie hinüber gegen das Meer in das Rohrtal, und endet am Salzmeer. Das ist der Besitz des Stammes der Söhne Ephraims nach seinen verschiedenen Geschlechtern.

Dazu wurden für die Söhne Ephraims auch Städte in der Mitte der Besitzung der Söhne Manasse bestimmt samt den dazu gehörigen Dörfern.

Und die Söhne Ephraims töteten die Chananiter nicht, die in Gazer wohnten; und so blieben die Chananiter unter Ephraim bis auf diesen Tag wohnen und wurden zinsbar.
