(Matthew 4:18–22; Mark 1:16–20; John 1:35–42)

And it came to pass, that when the multitudes pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Genesareth,

And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

And going into one of the ships that was Simon’s, he desired him to draw back a little from the land. And sitting he taught the multitudes out of the ship.

Now when he had ceased to speak, he said to Simon: Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

And Simon answering said to him: Master, we have labored all the night, and have taken nothing: but at thy word I will let down the net.

And when they had done this, they enclosed a very great multitude of fishes, and their net broke.

And they beckoned to their partners that were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they were almost sinking.

Which when Simon Peter saw, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying: Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

For he was wholly astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken.

And so were also James and John the sons of Zebedee, who were Simon’s partners. And Jesus saith to Simon: Fear not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

And having brought their ships to land, leaving all things, they followed him.

The Leper’s Prayer

(Leviticus 14:1–32; Matthew 8:1–4; Mark 1:40–45)

And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy, who seeing Jesus, and falling on his face, besought him, saying: Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

And stretching forth his hand, he touched him, saying: I will. Be thou cleansed. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

And he charged him that he should tell no man, but, Go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing according as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

But the fame of him went abroad the more, and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

And he retired into the desert, and prayed.

Jesus Heals a Paralytic

(Matthew 9:1–8; Mark 2:1–12)

And it came to pass on a certain day, as he sat teaching, that there were also Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, that were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was to heal them.

And behold, men brought in a bed a man, who had the palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.

And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in, because of the multitude, they went up upon the roof, and let him down through the tiles with his bed into the midst before Jesus.

Whose faith when he saw, he said: Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

And the scribes and Pharisees began to think, saying: Who is this who speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

And when Jesus knew their thoughts, answering, he said to them: What is it you think in your hearts?

Which is easier to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise and walk?

But that you may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say to thee, Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house.

And immediately rising up before them, he took up the bed on which he lay; and he went away to his own house, glorifying God.

And all were astonished; and they glorified God. And they were filled with fear, saying: We have seen wonderful things today.

Jesus Calls Levi

(Matthew 9:9–13; Mark 2:13–17)

And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom, and he said to him: Follow me.

And leaving all things, he rose up and followed him.

And Levi made him a great feast in his own house; and there was a great company of publicans, and of others, that were at table with them.

But the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying to his disciples: Why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

And Jesus answering, said to them: They that are whole, need not the physician: but they that are sick.

I came not to call the just, but sinners to penance.

Questions about Fasting

(Matthew 9:14–15; Mark 2:18–20)

And they said to him: Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees in like manner; but thine eat and drink?

To whom he said: Can you make the children of the bridegroom fast, whilst the bridegroom is with them?

But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, then shall they fast in those days.

The Patches and the Wineskins

(Matthew 9:16–17; Mark 2:21–22)

And he spoke also a similitude to them: That no man putteth a piece from a new garment upon an old garment; otherwise he both rendeth the new, and the piece taken from the new agreeth not with the old.

And no man putteth new wine into old bottle: otherwise the new wine will break the bottles, and it will be spilled, and the bottles will be lost.

But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

And no man drinking old, hath presently a mind to new: for he saith, The old is better.

Vier Fischer werden als Jünger berufen

(Matthäus 4,18-22; Markus 1,16-20; Johannes 1,35-42)

Es geschah aber, als sich das Volk an ihn herandrängte, um das Wort Gottes zu hören, stand er am See Genesareth.

Und er sah zwei Schiffe am See liegen; die Fischer aber waren ausgestiegen, und wuschen ihre Netze.

Da trat er in das eine der Schiffe, welches dem Simon gehörte, und bat ihn, von dem Lande etwas abzustoßen. Und er setzte sich, und lehrte das Volk von dem Schiffe aus.

Als er aber aufhörte zu reden, sprach er zu Simon: Fahre hinaus, und werfet eure Netze zum Fange aus!

Da antwortete Simon, und sprach zu ihm: Meister! wir haben uns die ganze Nacht abgemüht und nichts gefangen: doch auf dein Wort will ich das Netz auswerfen.

Als sie dies getan hatten, fingen sie eine große Menge Fische, so dass ihr Netz zerriss.

Und sie winkten ihren Genossen, die im anderen Schiffe waren, zu kommen und ihnen zu helfen. Und sie kamen, und füllten beide Schiffe an, so dass sie beinahe versanken!

Als das Simon Petrus sah, fiel er Jesus zu Füßen und sprach: Herr! gehe hinweg von mir: denn ich bin ein sündhafter Mensch.

Denn Staunen hatte ihn ergriffen, und alle, die bei ihm waren, über den Fischfang, den sie gemacht hatten;

desgleichen auch den Jakobus und Johannes, die Söhne des Zebedäus, welche Simons Genossen waren. Jesus aber sprach zu Simon: Fürchte dich nicht; von nun an wirst du Menschen fangen!

Und sie führten ihre Schiffe an das Land, verließen alles, und folgten ihm nach.

Jesus reinigt einen Aussätzigen

(3. Mose 14,1-32; Matthäus 8,1-4; Markus 1,40-45)

Und es geschah, als er in einer der Städte war, siehe, da war ein Mann voll Aussatzes. Als dieser Jesus sah, fiel er auf sein Angesicht, bat ihn, und sprach: Herr! wenn du willst, so kannst du mich rein machen.

Da streckte er die Hand aus, berührte ihn, und sprach: Ich will, sei rein! Und sogleich wich der Aussatz von ihm.

Und er befahl ihm, es niemanden zu sagen; sondern: Gehe hin (sprach er), zeige dich dem Priester und opfere für deine Reinigung, wie Moses angeordnet hat, zum Zeugnisse für sie.

Es breitete sich aber die Rede von ihm noch mehr aus; und es kam viel Volk zusammen, um ihn zu hören, und geheilt zu werden von seinen Krankheiten.

Er aber entwich in die Wüste, und betete.

Jesus verzeiht und heilt einen Gelähmten

(Matthäus 9,1-8; Markus 2,1-12)

Und es geschah an einem der Tage, dass er saß und lehrte. Und es saßen auch Pharisäer und Gesetzeslehrer dort, die aus allen Flecken Galiläa´s und Judäa´s, und von Jerusalem gekommen waren; und die Kraft des Herrn war da, um sie zu heilen.

Und siehe, da brachten Männer auf einem Bette einen Menschen daher, welcher gelähmt war; und sie suchten ihn hineinzubringen, und vor ihm hinzulegen.

Da sie vor der Menge des Volkes nicht fanden, von welcher Seite sie ihn hineinbringen könnten, stiegen sie auf das Dach, und ließen ihm mit dem Bett durch die Ziegel hinab mitten hinein vor Jesus hin.

Als er nun ihren Glauben sah, sprach er: Mensch! deine Sünden werden dir vergeben.

Da fingen die Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer an bei sich zu denken und zu sprechen: Wer ist dieser, der Gotteslästerungen spricht? Wer kann Sünden vergeben, als Gott allein?

Weil aber Jesus ihre Gedanken erkannte, antwortete er, und sprach zu ihnen: Was denkt ihr in euren Herzen?

Was ist leichter zu sagen: Dir werden deine Sünden vergeben; oder zu sagen: Stehe auf, und wandle?

Damit ihr aber wisset, dass der Menschensohn Macht hat, auf Erden die Sünden zu vergeben, (sprach er zu dem Gelähmten:) Ich sage dir, stehe auf, nimm dein Bett, und gehe fort in dein Haus!

Und sogleich stand er vor ihnen auf, nahm das Bett, auf dem er lag, und ging hinweg in sein Haus, Gott preisend.

Und Staunen ergriff alle, und sie priesen Gott, und wurden mit Furcht erfüllt, und sprachen: Wir haben heute wunderbare Dinge gesehen!

Matthäus der Steuereintreiber

(Matthäus 9,9-13; Markus 2,13-17)

Hierauf ging er hinaus, und sah einen Zöllner, mit Namen Levi, an der Zolltüre sitzen, und sprach zu ihm: Folge mir nach!

Und er stand auf, verließ alles, und folgte ihm nach.

Und Levi gab ihm ein großes Gastmahl in seinem Hause; und es war eine große Schar von Zöllnern und von anderen da, die mit ihnen zu Tische saßen.

Darüber murrten die Pharisäer und die Schriftgelehrten derselben und sprachen zu seinen Jüngern: Warum esset und trinket ihr mit den Zöllnern und Sündern?

Da antwortete Jesus, und sprach zu ihnen: Nicht die Gesunden bedürfen eines Arztes, sondern die Kranken.

Ich bin nicht gekommen die Gerechten zu berufen, sondern Sünder zur Buße.

Jesus wird über das Fasten befragt

(Matthäus 9,14-15; Markus 2,18-20)

Sie aber sprachen zu ihm: Warum fasten die Jünger des Johannes so oft, und verrichten Gebete, desgleichen auch die Jünger der Pharisäer, die deinigen aber essen und trinken?

Er sprach zu ihnen: Könnt ihr etwa die Gefährten des Bräutigams zum Fasten anhalten, so lange der Bräutigam bei ihnen ist?

Es werden aber Tage kommen, da der Bräutigam von ihnen genommen wird; dann werden sie fasten in jenen Tagen.

(Matthäus 9,16-17; Markus 2,21-22)

Er sagte aber auch ein Gleichnis zu ihnen: Niemand setzt einen Fleck von einem neuen Kleide auf ein altes Kleid; sonst zerreißt auch das neue, und auf das alte passt der Fleck vom neuen nicht.

Und niemand tut neuen Wein in alte Schläuche, sonst wird der neue Wein die Schläuche zersprengen, er selbst wird verschüttet, und die Schläuche werden zu Grunde gehen;

sondern neuen Wein muss man in neue Schläuche tun, und so werden beide erhalten.

Und niemand, der alten Wein trinkt, verlangt sogleich neuen, denn er sagt: Der alte ist besser!
