- Kapitel 18 -

(1 Kings 22:1–12)

And Iehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, but he was ioyned in affinitie with Ahab.

And after certaine yeeres he went downe to Ahab to Samaria: and Ahab slew sheepe and oxen for him in great nomber, and for the people that he had with him, and entised him to goe vp vnto Ramoth Gilead.

And Ahab King of Israel saide vnto Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, Wilt thou goe with mee to Ramoth Gilead? And hee answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people, and wee will ioyne with thee in the warre.

And Iehoshaphat sayde vnto the King of Israel, Aske counsel, I pray thee, at the worde of the Lord this day.

Therefore the King of Israel gathered of Prophets foure hundreth men, and sayde vnto them, Shall we goe to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I cease? And they sayd, Go vp: for God shall deliuer it into the Kings hand.

But Iehoshaphat sayde, Is there heere neuer a Prophet more of the Lord that wee might inquire of him?

And the King of Israel sayd vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whome wee may aske counsell of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophesie good vnto me, but alway euil: it is Michaiah the sonne of Imla. Then Iehoshaphat said, Let not the King say so.

And the King of Israel called an eunuche, and said, Call quickly Michaiah the sonne of Imla.

And the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat King of Iudah sate either of them on his throne clothed in their apparel: they sate euen in the threshing floore at the entring in of the gate of Samaria: and all the Prophets prophesied before them.

And Zidkiah ye sonne of Chenaanah made him hornes of yron, and sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Aramites vntill thou hast consumed them.

And all the Prophets prophesied so, saying, Go vp to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the King.

Micaiah Prophesies against Ahab

(1 Kings 22:13–28)

And the messenger that went to call Michaiah, spake to him, saying, Beholde, the wordes of the Prophets declare good to the King with one accord: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speake thou good.

And Michaiah saide, As the Lord liueth, whatsoeuer my God saith, that will I speake.

So he came to the King, and the King said vnto him, Michaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I leaue off? And he said, Goe yee vp, and prosper, and they shalbe deliuered into your hand.

And the King sayd to him, Howe oft shall I charge thee, that thou tell mee nothing but the trueth in the Name of the Lord?

Then he said, I saw al Israel scattered in the mountaines, as sheepe that haue no shepheard: and the Lord sayd, These haue no Master: let them returne euery man to his house in peace.

And the King of Israel sayde to Iehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would not prophesie good vnto me, but euill?

Againe hee saide, Therefore heare ye the worde of the Lord: I sawe the Lord sit vpon his throne, and all the hoste of heauen standing at his right hand, and at his left.

And the Lord sayd, Who shall perswade Ahab King of Israel, that he may go vp, and fall at Ramoth Gilead? And one spake and said thus, and another said that.

Then there came forth a spirit and stoode before the Lord, and said, I will perswade him. And the Lord said vnto him, Wherein?

And he saide, I will goe out, and bee a false spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets. And hee said, Thou shalt perswade, and shalt also preuaile: goe forth and do so.

Now therefore behold, the Lord hath put a false spirit in the mouth of these thy Prophets, and the Lord hath determined euill against thee.

Then Zidkiah the sonne of Chenaanah came neere, and smote Michaiah vpon the cheeke, and sayde, By what way went the Spirit of the Lord from me, to speake with thee?

And Michaiah saide, Behold, thou shalt see that day when thou shalt goe from chamber to chamber to hide thee.

And the King of Israel sayde, Take ye Michaiah, and cary him to Amon the gouernour of the citie, and to Ioash the Kings sonne,

And say, Thus saith the King, Put this man in the prison house, and feede him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction vntil I returne in peace.

And Michaiah said, If thou returne in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he saide, Heare, all ye people.

Ahab’s Defeat and Death

(1 Kings 22:29–40)

So the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah went vp to Ramoth Gilead.

And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, I will change my selfe, and enter into the battel: but put thou on thine apparel. So the King of Israel changed himselfe, and they went into the battel.

And the King of Aram had commanded the captaines of the charets that were with him, saying, Fight you not with small, nor great, but against the King of Israel onely.

And when the captaines of the charets saw Iehoshaphat, they sayde, It is the King of Israel: and they compassed about him to fight. But Iehoshaphat cryed, and the Lord helped him and moued them to depart from him.

For when the captaines of the charets saw that hee was not the King of Israel, they turned backe from him.

Then a certaine man drewe a bowe mightily, and smote the King of Israel betweene the ioyntes of his brigandine: Therefore he saide to his charetman, Turne thine hand, and carie mee out of the host: for I am hurt.

And the battel increased that day: and the King of Israel stood still in his charet against the Aramites vntil euen, and dyed at the time of the sunne going downe.

Michaja warnt Ahab

(1. Könige 22,1-12)

Josaphat war also reich und sehr berühmt und verschwägerte sich mit Achab.

Und nach einigen Jahren zog er zu ihm nach Samaria hinab. Da schlachtete Achab ihm und dem Volke, das mit ihm gekommen war, bei seiner Ankunft sehr viele Widder und Rinder und beredete ihn, hinauf zu ziehen gegen Ramoth Galaad.

Und Achab, der König von Israel, sprach zu Josaphat, dem Könige von Juda: Ziehe mit mir gegen Ramoth Galaad! Dieser antwortete ihm: Wie ich, so du; wie dein Volk, so auch mein Volk; wir werden dir beistehen im Kampfe.

Da sprach Josaphat zum Könige von Israel: Frage doch sogleich den Herrn um seinen Ausspruch!

Da versammelte der König von Israel vierhundert von den Propheten und sprach zu ihnen: Sollen wir gegen Ramoth Galaad in den Kampf ziehen oder es unterlassen? Sie sprachen: Ziehe hinauf, denn Gott wird es in die Hand des Königs geben.

Josaphat aber sprach: Ist hier nicht ein Prophet des Herrn, dass wir auch ihn befragen?

Da sprach der König von Israel zu Josaphat: Es ist noch ein Mann da, von dem wir des Herrn Willen erfragen können; aber ich hasse ihn, denn er prophezeit mir nichts Gutes, sondern allzeit Böses; dies ist Michäas, der Sohn Jemlas. Josaphat antwortete: Sprich nicht also, o König.

Da rief der König von Israel einen von den Kämmerlingen und sprach zu ihm: Rufe eilends Michäas, den Sohn Jemlas!

Der König von Israel und Josaphat, der König von Juda, saßen beide, ein jeder auf seinem Throne, mit königlicher Pracht angetan; sie saßen aber auf einer Tenne bei dem Tore von Samaria und alle Propheten weissagten vor ihnen.

Sedekias, der Sohn Chanaanas, machte sich eiserne Hörner und sprach: So spricht der Herr: Mit solchen wirst du die Syrer niederstoßen, bis du sie aufreibst.

Und alle Propheten weissagten dasselbe und sprachen: Ziehe hinauf wider Ramoth Galaad, denn es wird dir gelingen und der Herr wird es in die Hand des Königs geben.

(1. Könige 22,13-28)

Der Bote aber, der hingegangen war, Michäas zu rufen, sprach zu ihm: Siehe, die Worte aller Propheten verkünden dem Könige einstimmig Gutes; ich bitte dich also, lass dein Wort von dem ihren nicht abweichen und verkünde Glückliches.

Michäas antwortete ihm: So wahr der Herr lebt! Was mein Gott immer zu mir sagen wird, das werde ich reden.

Als er nun zu dem Könige kam, sprach der König zu ihm: Michäas! Sollen wir in den Kampf ziehen gegen Ramoth Galaad oder davon abstehen? Dieser antwortete ihm: Ziehet hinauf! Denn alles wird gut gehen und die Feinde werden in eure Hände gegeben werden.

Da sprach der König: Abermals und abermals beschwöre ich dich, dass du mir nichts sagest, außer was wahr ist, im Namen des Herrn!

Jener antwortete: Ich sah ganz Israel auf den Bergen zerstreut wie Schafe ohne Hirten und der Herr sprach: Diese haben keine Herren, ein jeder kehre in sein Haus in Frieden zurück!

Da sprach der König von Israel zu Josaphat: Habe ich es dir nicht gesagt, dass mir dieser nichts Gutes weissagen werde, sondern Böses?

Jener aber sprach: Höret also das Wort des Herrn: Ich sah den Herrn auf seinem Throne sitzen und das ganze Heer des Himmels ihm zur Rechten und zur Linken stehen.

Da sprach der Herr: Wer wird Achab, den König von Israel, betören, dass er hinaufziehe und in Ramoth Galaad falle? Da nun einer so sprach, ein anderer anders,

trat der Geist hervor, stellte sich vor den Herrn und sprach: Ich will ihn betören. Der Herr sprach zu ihm: Womit willst du ihn betören?

Er aber antwortete: Ich will ausgehen und zum Lügengeiste werden in dem Munde aller seiner Propheten. Darauf sprach der Herr: Du wirst ihn betören und wirst über ihn Macht erlangen, gehe aus und tue also!

So hat nun, siehe, der Herr einen Lügengeist in den Mund aller deiner Propheten gegeben, während der Herr doch Böses wider dich geredet hat.

Da trat Sedekias, der Sohn Chanaanas, hinzu, schlug Michäas auf die Wange und sprach: Auf welchem Wege ist der Geist des Herrn von mir gewichen, um zu dir zu reden?

Michäas sprach: Du wirst es sehen an dem Tage, wenn du aus einer Kammer in die andere gehen wirst, um dich zu verbergen.

Der König von Israel aber befahl: Nehmet Michäas und führet ihn zu Amon, dem Befehlshaber der Stadt, und zu Joas, dem Sohne Amelechs,

und sagt: So spricht der König: Werfet diesen in das Gefängnis und gebet ihm nur kärgliches Brot und wenig Wasser, bis ich in Frieden heimkehre!

Da sprach Michäas: Wenn du in Frieden heimkehrst, so hat der Herr nicht durch mich geredet! Und er sprach: Höret es, ihr Völker alle!

Ahab stirbt in der Schlacht

(1. Könige 22,29-40)

So zogen also der König von Israel und Josaphat, der König von Juda, nach Ramoth Galaad.

Und der König von Israel sprach zu Josaphat: Ich will mich verkleiden und so in den Kampf ziehen, du aber bewahre deine Kleider. So zog denn der König von Israel verkleidet in den Kampf.

Der König von Syrien aber hatte den Anführern seiner Reiter geboten und gesagt: Lasset euch mit niemanden in Kampf ein, es sei ein Geringer oder ein Großer, sondern einzig mit dem Könige von Israel allein!

Als daher die Anführer der Reiterei Josaphat sahen, sprachen sie: Das ist der König von Israel! Und sie umringten ihn im Kampfe. Er aber rief zu dem Herrn und dieser half ihm und wandte sie von ihm ab.

Als nämlich die Anführer der Reiterei sahen, dass er nicht der König von Israel sei, ließen sie von ihm ab.

Es geschah aber, dass einer aus dem Kriegsvolke einen Pfeil, ohne ein Ziel zu nehmen, abschoss und den König von Israel zwischen den Nacken und die Schulter traf. Da sprach dieser zu seinem Wagenführer: Lenke um und führe mich aus dem Treffen, denn ich bin verwundet.

So ging denn der Kampf an diesem Tage zu Ende, der König von Israel aber hatte in seinem Wagen den Syrern gegenüber bis zum Abend gestanden und er starb, als die Sonne unterging.
