- Kapitel 16 -

When Dauid was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the seruant of Mephibosheth mette him with a couple of asses sadled, and vpon them two hundreth cakes of bread, and an hundreth bunches of raisins, and an hundreth of dryed figges, and a bottel of wine.

And the King said vnto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, They be asses for the kings housholde to ride on, and bread and dryed figges for the yong men to eate, and wine, that the faint may drinke in the wildernesse.

And the king sayde, But where is thy masters sonne? Then Ziba answered the King, Beholde, he remayneth in Ierusalem: for he sayde, This day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdome of my father.

Then said the King to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that perteined vnto Mephibosheth. And Ziba saide, I beseech thee, let me finde grace in thy sight, my lord, O King.

Shimei Curses David

And when king Dauid came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the familie of the house of Saul, named Shimei the sonne of Gera: and he came out, and cursed.

And he cast stones at Dauid, and at all the seruants of King Dauid: and all the people, and all the men of warre were on his right hande, and on his left.

And thus sayde Shimei when hee cursed, Come forth, come foorth thou murtherer, and wicked man.

The Lord hath brought vpon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned: and the Lord hath deliuered thy kingdome into the hand of Absalom thy sonne: and beholde, thou art taken in thy wickednesse, because thou art a murtherer.

Then saide Abishai the sonne of Zeruiah vnto the King, Why doeth this dead dog curse my lord the King? let me goe, I pray thee, and take away his head.

But the King saide, What haue I to doe with you, ye sonnes of Zeruiah? for he curseth, eue because the Lord hath bidden him curse Dauid: who dare then say, Wherfore hast thou done so?

And Dauid sayd to Abishai, and to all his seruants, Beholde, my sonne which came out of mine owne bowels, seeketh my life: then howe much more now may this sonne of Iemini? Suffer him to curse: for the Lord hath bidden him.

It may be that the Lord will looke on mine affliction, and doe me good for his cursing this day.

And as Dauid and his men went by the way, Shimei went by the side of the mountaine ouer against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones against him, and cast dust.

Then came the King and all the people that were with him wearie, and refreshed them selues there.

The Counsel of Ahithophel and Hushai

And Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Ierusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

And when Hushai the Archite Dauids friend was come vnto Absalom, Hushai said vnto Absalom, God saue the King, God saue the King.

Then Absalom sayd to Hushai, Is this thy kindenes to thy friend? Why wentest thou not with thy friend?

Hushai then answered vnto Absalom, Nay, but whome the Lord, and this people, and all the men of Israel chuse, his will I be, and with him will I dwell.

And moreouer vnto whome shall I doe seruice? not to his sonne? as I serued before thy father, so will I before thee.

Then spake Absalom to Ahithophel, Giue counsell what we shall doe.

And Ahithophel said vnto Absalom, Goe in to thy fathers concubines, which he hath left to keepe the house: and when all Israel shall heare, that thou art abhorred of thy father, the hands of all that are with thee, shall be strong.

So they spread Absalom a tent vpon the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his fathers concubines in the sight of all Israel.

And the counsell of Ahithophel which he counseled in those dayes, was like as one had asked counsell at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with Dauid and with Absalom.

Mephibosheths Diener

Als David ein wenig über die Höhe des Berges gekommen war, erschien Siba, der Diener Miphiboseths, und kam ihm mit zwei Eseln entgegen, welche mit zweihundert Broten, hundert Bündeln Rosinen, hundert Feigenkuchen und einem Schlauche Wein beladen waren.

Da sprach der König zu Siba: Wozu ist dies bestimmt? Siba aber antwortete: Die Esel sind für die Hausgenossen des Königs, damit sie sich auf dieselben setzen, die Brote und Feigen zum Essen für deine Diener und der Wein, damit die, welche etwa in der Wüste matt werden, zu trinken haben.

Der König sprach: Wo ist der Sohn deines Herrn? Siba antwortete dem Könige: Er ist in Jerusalem geblieben, indem er sprach: Heute wird mir das Haus Israel das Reich meines Vaters wiedergeben.

Da sprach der König zu Siba: So soll alles, was Miphiboseth gehörte, dein sein. Siba sprach: Ich bitte, lass mich Gnade vor dir finden, mein Herr und mein König!

Schimei verflucht David

Als nun der König bis Bahurim gelangt war, siehe, da kam von dort ein Mann heraus, vom Geschlechte des Hauses Saul, mit Namen Semei, der Sohn Geras; dieser ging heraus und folgte, indem er beständig fluchte

und mit Steinen nach David und allen Dienern des Königs David warf; das ganze Volk aber und alle Kriegsleute gingen zur rechten und zur linken Seite des Königs.

Und zwar sprach Semei, da er dem Könige fluchte, also: Fort, fort, du Blutmensch, du Belialsmensch!

Der Herr hat alles Blut des Hauses Saul über dich gebracht, weil du an seiner Statt die Herrschaft an dich gerissen hast, und der Herr hat das Königtum deinem Sohne Absalom gegeben und siehe, dein Unglück drückt dich, denn du bist ein Blutmensch.

Da sprach Abisai, der Sohn Sarvias, zu dem Könige: Warum lästert dieser tote Hund meinen Herrn, den König? Ich werde hingehen und ihm den Kopf abschlagen.

Aber der König sprach: Seid um mich unbesorgt, ihr Söhne Sarvias. Lasset ihn lästern! Denn der Herr hat ihm befohlen, David zu lästern, und wer ist, der es wagen dürfte zu sagen: Warum tut er solches?

Und der König sprach zu Abisai und allen seinen Dienern: Sehet, mein Sohn, der aus meinen Lenden hervorgegangen ist, trachtet mir nach dem Leben, wie viel mehr nun der Sohn Jeremias? Lasset ihn lästern nach dem Befehle des Herrn;

vielleicht sieht der Herr mein Elend an und vergilt mir Gutes für diese heutige Lästerung.

So zog David denn auf dem Wege fort und seine Gefährten mit ihm. Semei aber ging auf der Höhe des Berges seitwärts ihm gegenüber einher, indem er fluchte und Steine nach ihm warf und Erde schleuderte.

Müde also kam der König und alles Volk mit ihm an und sie erholten sich daselbst.

Der Rat von Ahithophel

Absalom aber und sein ganzes Volk zogen in Jerusalem ein, auch Achitophel war mit ihm.

Als aber Chusai, der Arachiter, der Freund Davids, zu Absalom kam, sprach er zu diesem: Sei gegrüßt, o König! Sei gegrüßt, o König!

Absalom sprach zu ihm: Das ist deine Liebe gegen deinen Freund? Warum bist du nicht mit deinem Freunde fortgegangen?

Chusai antwortete Absalom: O nein! Denn ich will dem zugehören, welchen der Herr erwählt hat und dieses ganze Volk und das gesamte Israel, und bei ihm will ich bleiben.

Und damit ich auch das noch anführe, wem werde ich dienen? Doch wohl dem Sohne des Königs? Wie ich deinem Vater gehorcht habe, so will ich auch dir gehorchen!

Absalom aber sprach zu Achitophel: Haltet Rat, was wir tun sollen!

Achitophel sprach zu Absalom: Gehe zu den Nebenfrauen deines Vaters ein, die er zurückgelassen, das Haus zu hüten, damit, wenn ganz Israel hört, dass du deinen Vater beschimpft hast, die Hände derer, die bei dir sind, stark werden.

Da schlugen sie für Absalom ein Zelt auf dem Söller auf und er ging vor ganz Israel zu den Nebenfrauen seines Vaters ein.

Ein Rat aber, den Achitophel gab, galt in jenen Tagen so viel als wenn jemand Gott selber befragte, so galt jeder Rat Achitophels, sowohl als er David folgte, als auch da er auf Absaloms Seite stand.
