- Kapitel 26 -

Job: The weakness of man and the majesty of God

Job replied to Bildad:

“I am a very weak and helpless man; you do not really think that you have helped me at all, do you?

You certainly do not think that you have given me good advice, do you? me, who am not wise at all.

Who helped you to say all those great things? Who inspired you to speak like you did?

The spirits of dead people tremble with fear, those who are under the waters and everyone who dwells with them.

God knows all about those who are in the place of the dead; there is nothing down there that prevents God from seeing what is there.

God stretches out heaven over the empty spaces, and he places the earth in that huge empty space, but it is not resting on anything.

He fills the thick clouds with water and prevents that water from bursting the clouds.

He causes clouds to obscure the moon.

He separates the light from the darkness and puts the horizon to mark the place where the night ends and the daytime begins.

When he is angry, it is as though he rebuked the pillars that hold up the sky. They are shocked, and they tremble.

By his power he calmed the sea; by his skill he destroyed Rahab, the huge sea monster.

By his breath he caused the sky to be bright; by his hand he killed the great dragon in the sea as it was fleeing from him.

But those events show only a small amount of his power; it is as though we were hearing only whispers of his powerful voice. When we hear thunder, we say, ‘Who can really understand how great his power is?’”

Job antwortete und sprach:

Wessen Helfer bist du? Etwa des Schwachen? Und stützest du den Arm dessen, der nicht stark ist?

Wem hast du Rat gegeben? Etwa dem, der keine Weisheit hat, und hast du ihm deine übergroße Klugheit kundgegeben?

Wen wolltest du belehren? Nicht den, der den Odem gemacht hat?

Siehe, die Riesen ächzen unter den Wassern und die, welche bei ihnen wohnen.

Bloß liegt das Totenreich vor ihm da und das Verderben verhüllt keine Decke.

Er spannt den Norden aus über die Leere und hängt die Erde über dem Nichts auf.

Er bindet die Wasser in seine Wolken, dass sie nicht zugleich niederstürzen.

Er hält das Antlitz seines Thrones und breitet darüber sein Gewölk aus,

setzt Schranken rings um die Wasser, solange bis Licht und Finsternis aufhören.

Die Säulen des Himmels erzittern und erbeben bei seinem Dräuen.

Durch seine Kraft sammeln sich plötzlich die Meere und seine Weisheit schlägt das stolze.

Sein Geist schmückt die Himmel aus, seine hebende Hand brachte die Ringelschlange hervor.

Siehe, das ist von einem Teile seiner Wege gesprochen; und da wir kaum ein Flüstern seiner Rede vernommen haben, wer kann den Donner seiner Größe fassen?
