- Kapitel 4 -

(Mark 1:12–13; Luke 4:1–13)

Then God’s Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness for the devil to tempt him.

After he had not eaten food day and night for forty days, he was hungry.

Satan, the tempter, came to him and said, “If you are really the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread for yourself!”

But Jesus said to him, “No! I will not do this, because God has said in the scriptures, ‘For people to truly live, they must have more than food; they must listen to every word that God has spoken.’”

Then the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, the city that was especially for God. He set him on the highest part of the temple

and said to him, “If you are truly the Son of God, jump down to the ground. You will, of course, not be hurt, because God has said in the scriptures, ’God will command his angels to protect you. They will lift you up in their hands when you are falling, and they will keep you from even hitting your foot on a stone.’”

But Jesus said, “No! I will not jump down, because God has also said in the scriptures, ‘Do not try to make God your God prove who he is.’”

Then the devil took him on top of a very high mountain. There he showed him all the nations in the world and the magnificent things in those nations.

Then he said to him, “I will let you rule all these nations and give you the magnificent things in them if you bow down and worship me.”

But Jesus said to him, “No, I will not worship you, Satan, so go away! God has said in the scriptures, ‘It is to God your God whom you must bow down, and you must worship only him!’”

Then the devil went away, and at that moment, angels came to Jesus and took care of him.

Jesus Begins His Ministry

(Isaiah 9:1–7; Mark 1:14–15; Luke 4:14–15)

While Jesus was in the province of Judea, John the Baptizer’s disciples came and told him that King Herod had put John in prison. So Jesus returned to the district of Galilee, to the town of Nazareth.

Then he left Nazareth and went to the city of Capernaum in order to live there. Capernaum is located beside the Sea of Galilee in the region that formerly belonged to the tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali.

He went there so that these words that the prophet Isaiah had written long ago might come true:

“The regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, regions by the road going to the Sea, on the eastern side of the Jordan River, regions in Galilee, home of many non-Israelites!

Those people do not know God, as if they were in darkness, but they will learn the truth, as if a bright light had shone on them. Yes, they have been very afraid of dying, But a brilliant light has shone upon them!”

At that time, while Jesus was in the city of Capernaum, he began to preach to the people, “The rule of God from heaven is near, and he will judge you when he rules. So stop sinning!”

The First Disciples

(Mark 1:16–20; Luke 5:1–11; John 1:35–42)

One day while Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two men, Simon, who was later called Peter, and Andrew, his younger brother. They were casting their fishing net into the water because they caught and sold fish.

Jesus said to them, “Come with me and I will teach you how to gather people to become my disciples. I will make your work fishing for people.”

They immediately left the work that they were doing and went with him.

As the three of them walked on from there, Jesus saw two other men, James and John, the younger brother of James. They were in their boat with Zebedee, their father, mending their fishing nets. Jesus told them that they should leave their work and go with him.

Immediately they also left their boat and their father and went with Jesus.

Jesus Heals the Multitudes

(Mark 3:7–12; Luke 6:17–19)

Jesus led those four men throughout all of the district of Galilee. He was teaching the people in the synagogues. He was preaching the good news about how God is ruling. He was also healing all the people who were sick.

When people who lived in other parts of the district of Syria heard what he was doing, they brought to him people who suffered from illnesses, people who suffered from many kinds of diseases, people who suffered from severe pains, people who were controlled by demons, people who were epileptics, and people who were paralyzed. And Jesus healed them.

Then large crowds started to go with him. They were people from Galilee, from the Ten Towns, from the city of Jerusalem, from other parts of the province of Judea, and from areas east of the Jordan River.

Satan versucht Jesus

(Markus 1,12-13; Lukas 4,1-13)

Da ward Jesus vom Geiste in die Wüste geführt, damit er von dem Teufel versucht würde.

Und nachdem er vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte gefastet hatte, darnach hungerte ihn.

Und es trat der Versucher zu ihm und sprach: Bist du Gottes Sohn, so sprich, dass viele Steine Brot werden!

Er aber antwortete und sprach: Es steht geschrieben: Nicht vom Brote allein lebt der Mensch, sondern von jedem Worte, das aus dem Munde Gottes hervorgeht.

Darauf nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich in die heilige Stadt, und stellte ihn auf die Zinne des Tempels,

und sprach zu ihm: Bist du Gottes Sohn, so stürze dich hinab; denn es steht geschrieben: Er hat seinen Engeln gegeben deinetwegen, und sie werden dich auf den Händen tragen, damit du nicht etwa deinen Fuß an einen Stein stoßest.

Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Es steht aber auch geschrieben: Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht versuchen!

Wiederum nahm ihn der Teufel mit auf einen sehr hohen Berg, und zeigte ihm alle Königreiche der Welt und ihre Herrlichkeit,

und sprach zu ihm: Dieses alles werde ich dir geben, wenn du niederfällst und mich anbetest.

Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Weiche, Satan! denn es steht geschrieben: Den Herrn deinen Gott sollst du anbeten und ihm allein dienen!

Hierauf verließ ihn der Teufel; und siehe, Engel traten hinzu und dienten ihm.

Jesus beginnt sein Wirken in Galiläa

(Jesaja 9,1-7; Markus 1,14-15; Lukas 4,14-15)

Da aber Jesus hörte, dass Johannes überantwortete worden war, zog er sich zurück nach Galiläa.

Und er verließ die Stadt Nazareth, und kam und wohnte in Kapharnaum, welches am Meer gelegen ist an den Grenzen Zabulons und Nephthalims,

damit erfüllt würde, was durch den Propheten Isaias gesagt worden:

Das Land Zabulon und das Land Nephtalim, Weg am Meere jenseits des Jordan, Galiläa der Heiden,

das Volk, das in Finsternissen saß, sah ein großes Licht; und denen, die im Bereich des Todesschattens sitzen, strahlte ein Licht auf.

Von dieser Zeit an begann Jesus zu predigen und zu sagen: Tut Buße! denn das Himmelreich hat sich genahet.

Vier Fischer werden als Jünger berufen

(Markus 1,16-20; Lukas 5,1-11; Johannes 1,35-42)

Als aber Jesus längs des galiläischen Meeres wandelte, sah er zwei Brüder, Simon, der Petrus genannt wird, und Andreas, seinen Bruder, wie sie eben das Netz in´s Meer warfen, denn sie waren Fischer.

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Folget mir nach, und ich werde euch zu Menschenfischern machen!

Sie aber verließen alsbald ihre Netze und folgten ihm.

Und als er von dort weiter ging, sah er zwei andere Brüder, Jakobus, den Sohn des Zebedäus, und Johannes, seinen Bruder, welche in dem Schiffe mit Zebedäus, ihrem Vater, ihre Netze ausbesserten; und er berief sie.

Sie aber verließen alsogleich die Netze und ihren Vater, und folgten ihm.

Jesus heilt eine große Menschenmenge

(Markus 3,7-12; Lukas 6,17-19)

Und Jesus zog umher in ganz Galiläa, indem er in ihren Synagogen lehrte, und das Evangelium des Reiches predigte, und alle Krankheiten und jegliches Gebrechen unter dem Volke heilte.

Und das Gerücht von ihm breitete sich aus durch ganz Syrien, und sie brachten zu ihm alle Leidenden, mit allerlei Krankheiten und Qualen Behaftete, Besessene, Mondsüchtige, und Gelähmte, und er heilte sie.

Auch folgten ihm viel Scharen Volkes aus Galiläa, und aus dem Gebiete der zehn Städte und aus Jerusalem, und von Judäa, und von jenseits des Jordan her.
